Life is difficult. It makes all the sense in the world to meet with someone and try to figure out why life is so difficult and what can be done about it.

I can help you untangle the complicated threads that we all find ourselves trapped, hindered, and controlled by. Freedom to think, to feel, to speak, and to live the life you truly want; this is the goal I am seeking to help you reach.

But how do we get there? It takes courage and a commitment to hard work.

That may sound like a lot right now, but we can take it one step at a time.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a big word that I don't really care for. I don't see myself as a "Psychotherapist", I see myself as a Counselor because I give people counsel, much like a lawyer gives people counsel. We look at a problem (or what appears to be a problem), we look at your judgements and those of others, we look at feelings and beliefs that seem like unbreakable laws, we look at motives (both conscious and unconscious), we look at all the evidence. But most importantly we look at the story that gives meaning to the evidence. Who wrote this story? Which elements did you create? What character do you play? Are you happy with this story? Can you change the story? I advocate for you and what you want your life to look like. There is no Judge or Jury other than the one you bring to bear on your life.

Fads, movements, and "evidence-based" kinds of therapy come and go. What remains the most effective factor for success in therapy is the same thing that determines success in life, relationships. Humans are relational beings and our true success in life is determined by the quality of our relationships. I offer a relationship of honesty, compassion, and love which if you choose can impact your whole life.

My Therapy Focus

It is my belief that when people experience trauma they are generally not prepared to fully process that experience. This unprocessed trauma then leads many people to live with coping mechanism that, while helpful for the short term, in the long term limit the true goals that we wish to attain. Therapy is a way to safely process the traumas that we have not been able to fully learn and move on from.

The most essential component in the healing process that I offer is the relationship between myself and my client. It is only in healthy relationships that we can find the healing that can lead to a more whole self. A healthy relationship is what I seek to offer, it is one in which honesty, trust, and love are the guiding principles.
