My Approach to Helping
I take a caring, non judgmental, and individualized approach to help every client resolve any problems they are experiencing and to meet the life goals they choose. I have been described as "down to earth" by clients and I have the ability to relate to all kinds of people. I believe that each of us has the power to learn how to cope with difficult situations and grow through learning new skills and understanding our own thoughts and behaviors. I chose my career as a therapist because my passion is helping others learn to help themselves and grow.

For clients that need medication management or would like to be evaluated for medication treatment, the practice I work in does offer psychiatric nurse practitioners who are accepting new patients at this time.

More Info About My Practice
I accept several insurance plans including Blue Cross & Blue Shield; Tricare; all Delaware Medicaid plans; Aetna and many employee assistance programs. For those without insurance or who prefer to pay for their own services, payment plans can be arranged.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

As you can see by the list of common problems I work with, I have the ability to help people with many different types of issues. However, one common client issue that intrigues me are post-traumatic stress issues. This can be the case in survivors of childhood sexual abuse, parental abuse or neglect, survivors of sexual assault and survivors of any traumatic event that they feel continues to affect them negatively. I enjoy helping the client connect their behaviors with their experiences and learn to change once adaptive behaviors that have now become a problem. This can include angry outbursts, fighting, addictions, codependency, continued revictimization, unhealthy relationship patterns, impulsive behavior and more. It is very fulfilling to see people move from living in "survival mode" to a life where they feel they can enjoy things and live to the fullest. I also enjoy working with people with mood disorders, anxiety and addiction/substance abuse.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

Therapy can be helpful to just about anyone willing to give it a try. It's a chance to talk to someone who can help you get an objective perspective on your situation that isn't out to judge you. Also a therapist is someone you can safely discuss things you normally wouldn't due to the fact that we are bound by privacy laws. Please know that I will not be shocked or uncomfortable with anything you need help with. Therapists frequently see and hear things that the average person might be shocked by. However I am used to dealing with a variety of complicated issues and I will not treat you differently or badly no matter what your personal issues are. I am here to make you feel comfortable, hopeful and eventually feel much better! Please feel free to email me to discuss how I can be of help to you.
