My Approach to Helping

Most of us find ourselves at a crossroads in life sooner or later. Where we know that something different is called for if we are going to emerge on the other side, better off than we are now. These are important times. Often it is here that we go through deep questioning of ourselves and perhaps even of our life and choices. Difficult as they are, these times bring rich potential for growth and change. Yet finding yourself at such a place can be daunting and confusing. It can feel like an unwelcome visitor! Vulnerable, unfamiliar and frightening. No one likes to get pushed outside of their comfort zone. And yet life has a way of pushing us there.

When you find yourself in a place like this, it can be a gift to have a safe place to sort things out. A place where you will be treated with respect and understanding and where you can explore parts of yourself- thoughts and feelings you may not be aware of, or which have been unavailable to you. These aspects of yourself may need to emerge for you to successfully pass into the next stage of your life.

I hold a space for you, where I am committed to helping you work through this intimate and personal process, with compassion and understanding. Knowing when and how to challenge you is also important because we all have blind spots where we need skillful challenge as much as we need support. I will work with you to help you at your crossroads, with my skills, wisdom, intelligence and compassion. We will start where you are and take it from there.

More Info About My Practice

Payment Methods I accept are cash, checks and credit cards before or at time of service. I accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and JCB cards. Also, if you have an HSA (Health Savings Account) VisaMastercard, I accept that as well. Checks should be made payable to Erin Andersen MFT. I do not bill or accept third party payments from insurance carriers. At your request I am happy to provide you with a billing statement which you may submit to your insurance carrier. Depending on what your policy covers, your carrier may or may not provide you with reimbursement. You may want to contact your carrier to make this determination before you commit to therapy.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love being able to help you make your life and experience of living better. I love that the changes you make will inevitably affect others in your life, and that these actions will continue to ripple out toward others. This work is the most satisfying, interesting and rewarding way that I have found to create a life of value and meaning. It is a deep honor to be invited to walk with a person for an important and meaningful part of their journey and to be a positive force. Being a psychotherapist is a privilege, one I am grateful for and that I have profound appreciation and respect for.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

We are all weak and flawed in some ways, just as we are all beautiful and perfect in other ways. This is what it is to be human! Going to therapy means you have an interest in growing and improving yourself and your relationships. It means you have the courage to look within, reflect and work with commitment and discipline at developing your awareness for some greater purpose. Becoming a better person, working on yourself, improving your relationships - all of these growth oriented actions tend to have a ripple effect. Your changes affect others and when each of us does the best we can with what we have, the impact can be far reaching and spectacular. Never doubt the importance that the actions of one person can make in fostering change in the world. Changing within yourself is a great place to start when you want to see change in your life and in your world.
