Feldenkrais Method

The Feldenkrais Method of therapy, developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, is founded upon the principles of comprehending human development, layered together with physics and biomechanics. Through subtle movements and focused attention, this somatic experience strives to improve overall human functioning. People can see increases in flexibility and coordination, as well as learn how to achieve fluid and efficient actions and movements. Most often, these changes will combine to positively affect other areas of a person’s life.

Enhanced Self Awareness

The Feldenkrais Method uses an enhancement of awareness to areas of the self that are dormant. Participants begin to see constrictive habits and movements and learn ways to expand and promote larger and more graceful motions. By becoming more self-aware, people can involve more of their own being in their movements which allows them to live more comfortably. This improvement is not an end, but rather a glimpse into overall enhancement of physical and emotional functioning.

Issues Helped from the Feldenkrais Method

People who suffer with restricted range of motion as well as physical, neurological, and/or psychological problems can all benefit from this refined method of facilitating understanding and change. The Feldenkrais Method utilizes the nervous system’s own ability to create change and improve movement. In order to adapt socially and biologically, our own experiences have generated a specific form of behavior, both psychological and physical.

Method and Experience of Feldenkrais Method

This innovative method of therapy goes deep into the nervous system to promote change and liberation from dysfunctional habits that are ingrained in our being. Movement is the catalyst to uncover the relationship between our own development and adaptation. It also allows us to identify and examine our own unique cognition, intention, and attention. The Feldenkrais Method integrates motor skills, martial arts, bio-mechanics, and psychology and is known to increase flexibility, coordination, and self-image. The two most recognized applications of this form of therapy are Awareness Through Movement® and Functional Integration® which capture and expand the nervous system’s power to create intelligent action towards healing.
