My Approach to Helping
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out! This is the hardest step to do! Finding a therapist that we truly connect with is not an easy process. I always tell my clients not to hesitate to change when they do not feel comfortable with a therapist. The relationship and allegiance created between therapist and client is sacred; it should be genuine, approached with respect, kindness, humility, and compassion. We are living difficult times. Covid has turned everyone's lives upside down and, coping with everyday stressors is overwhelming. As a clinician with many years of experience, my goal is to provide you with a confidential place where you can feel safe to express yourself and grow! Together, we can find answers, different tools, and coping mechanisms that will assist you while navigating through turbulent waters. Please, let me introduce myself to you. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and lived in France for 20 years. I have an extensive background and experience in diversity and multiculturalism. I am fluent in English, Spanish, and French. I began my training as a psychotherapist in 2009. I recently completed my doctoral degree in Depth psychotherapy. I work with adults, children of all ages, and military families. Being a therapist is a vocation, an honor, a privilege that allows me to serve. I am a survivor of life myself, and now it is my turn to give back to life by helping others. I specialize in trauma, complex trauma, victims of abuse, domestic violence, anxiety depression, grief, and somatic reactions to trauma (PTSD). I utilize approaches such as CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), TFCBT (trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy), motivational interviewing, solution-focused, narrative, spirituality, and depth psychotherapy. The approach utilized will be based on who you are and your needs: client-centered….always!
Very Respectfully,
Dr. Swany Ochoa, LMFT
