My Approach to Helping
I provide a supportive non-judgemental space which allows clients to safely access, explore, and witness their inner world, at their own pace. I further offer clients practical tools to disentangle from unhelpful patterns in thinking, feeling and doing. Clients are thereby able to work towards goals which are meaningful to them. Through the therapeutic process clients develop skills which they can then independently apply in the future, when needed.
The needs of the client determine the approach I use and tools I offer. This includes mindfulness and cognitive behaviour therapy-based techniques, as well as other methods which research has evidenced to be effective in improving a sense of well-being.
I am committed to my own personal transformation and further support my work by engaging in ongoing professional development. This has included extensive international training, such as through the Beck Institute and Australian Psychological Society, among others. I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with the Australian Association of Social Workers. This means that I have been accredited to provide evidence-based psychological strategies.
I currently practice in the Newlands/ Cavendish area in Cape Town, as well as offer online sessions. I provide individual adult and couple counselling as well as teen coaching and counselling. I also offer a home-based mindfulness parent/caregiver-child program to assist with acting-out, defiant and aggressive or withdrawn behaviour.
