My Approach to Helping
I have been in practice for over 30 years. In addition to my PhD in Clinical Psychology I have a PhD in Developmental Psychology which gives me unique insight into the individuals I work with over time. I have worked with many populations of individuals from young children through adolescence and adulthood into middle and old age. I am particularly versed in treating trauma – both sexualphysical trauma and military related trauma. I love treating families and young individuals who are on the edge of starting their adult lives. I am a buddhist in practice and use this background to inform treatment such as in mindfulness. I love animals and an advocate for animal adoption for some of the people I treat. I am a published poet and dabble in the visual arts. I am familiar with the struggle of artists in our culture. I am an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and have participated in this and related communities. I love the outdoors as an avid kayaker. I have been a martial artist. I attend to and respect the spiritual lives of those I treat. I’ve treated individuals from multiple cultures and ethnicities. I have experience treating both major mental illness such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder as well as the more normative disorders such as anxiety disorders, milder mood disorders and panic disorders. I look at psychotherapeutic treatment as a partnership between client and therapist. If I don’t know how to treat you I will help you to find someone who does.
