My Approach to Helping
I am fortunate to do a job I love. I enjoy my work because I get to go on a journey with each client. And every journey is different, filled with surprises along the way. Working with a diverse population I have seen the struggles and triumphs of very strong individuals. A new young mom struggling with postpartum depression, or a developmentally disabled woman dealing with sexuality in her marriage. A grieving widow who recently lost her husband after 60 years of marriage or a married couple dealing with chronic medical issues and caregiving needs. A young adult on the road to starting a successful future before being diagnosed with a potentially terminal illness.
Life can be very challenging and going through it alone is neither feasible nor enjoyable. "Humans are social beings," stated Aristotle. We lean on each other in times of struggle and celebration. We need to be able to share our experiences with other human beings to feel connected and real in the world we live in.
I hope to provide a place where you can safely talk about what is going on internally. Hope to establish a trusting
relationship where issues can be discussed in an open and free environment without fears of being judged or labeled. I focus on a strength based perspective and bring positivity and hope to the session. Therapy is about the here and now, a solution focused therapy using psychodynamic techniques to unveil the roots and causes of certain feelings and thoughts. Our psychology is complex and working with clients I feel like an investigator, asking questions, making connections, experimenting with techniques to find just the right answers to solve a mystery.
It is my job as a therapist to ensure that you recognize the strength within yourself to be able to make confident decisions, accept challenges and maintain the attitude that I am strong, I am unique and I am valuable for however long I am alive. With the right insight and support it is time to live your best life yet!
