My Approach to Helping
My name is Karen F Armstrong. I am licensed in four states, NV, IL, NM, and FL as a behavioral health and relationship therapist along with a certification in two states as an addiction professional. I am also a certified employee assistance professional/career coach.
I have worked for over twenty years in the field of behavioral health/relationships/addictions. In each area I counsel I provide good listening skills, and I am nonjudgmental, insightful, and supportive. Through the years I have provided support and helped modify problem behaviors for those that suffer from anxiety, depression, poor coping, stress, grief, OCD, eating disorders, and addictions. I have also worked with couples and guided them through their relationship problems including affairs, money, stress, and any issue that occurs within a relationship. I have assisted with family conflicts, communication barriers, and divorce, and with each family provided tools to help families navigate through their difficult times. For older people, I have dealt with issues that arose as they age, including chronic issues, retirement and children as they left home. When working with a variety of addiction disorders I have taught how to celebrate the good stuff in life and to give oneself permission to seek support when needed. I am a good listener, my role is not to judge but to support and validate while exploring options and other solutions to problems. I am here to help one sort through feelings and discover the reasons behind one's mental health behaviors and relationships. I have worked with trauma survivors in the areas of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and PTSD. I have worked to help increase trust issues, heal and feel safe. I have sat on the Board for Domestic Violence in my home state and have extensive training on PTSD through the military. I worked with the military and their families.
If you have a concern about your career, I am a certified employee assistant, I can help talk through your work problems and discuss workable options.
I also provide Christian counseling, I have a strong faith in something greater than ourselves.
