My Approach to Helping
Most of us can benefit from having a trusted advisor as a partner. A seasoned expert to help navigate a challenging life passage. Or help you manage significant stress or reduce anxiety. For 30+ years I have dedicated myself to listening with great care and building a strong foundation of trust with my clients. Solid trust enables clients to allow themselves be seen and heard. The trust helps build the teamwork that is central to any strong therapeutic relationship. While my practice is broad in scope, I have developed a particular expertise in complex transitions/losses, relationship work, and anxiety.
More Info About My Practice
Many clients come in when they are dealing with multiple life changes simultaneously. Perhaps you've received a medical diagnosis that will mean leaving a job. Or you may be the caregiver for a child and parent or grandparent. These multiple transitions can be taxing mentally and emotionally and require careful decision-making. Relationship work is my second area of specialty. This includes your relationship with yourself, your partner and others. The better you feel in your own skin, the greater your capacity for joy and satisfaction.
My couples frequently work on strengthening their intimacy and sexuality. They value working with a certified sex therapist. I strive to create a very safe environment which eases discussion of sensitive issues. I also deal with unique situations such as sex after a baby, an affair or sexual abuse.
The third area of expertise is anxiety, particularly performance anxiety. Performance anxiety unchecked can impair productivity and slow decision-making. Mindfulness, such as meditation, combined with cognitive and behavioral strategies, optimizes success.
Philosophy and Orientation
I strongly value each client as a whole person. This holistic philosophy stresses mind-body-spirit and underlies my work. Insight and cognitive behavioral techniques are blended with a deep understanding of couple and family systems. However, each individual and couple is unique. So, I will tailor the approach to your specific needs and learning type.
I hope this gives you some understanding of my values, experience and approach. I have had the privilege of working with countless individuals and couples, across a range of age, race, sexual orientation, and faith. All are welcome. Starting or resuming therapy does take courage. I know from my personal experience.. It also can be a catalyst to create a more empowered and exciting life. Therapy can help you grow immensely and, on occasion, transform your life.
