What's My Approach to Therapy?
Now Accepting New Clients
Welcome. I'm glad you're here. It takes enormous courage to reach out for help.
We deserve to be seen, heard, listened to, and understood. Each person has a unique story, and our struggles may give rise to life difficulties. As we understand the origins of your unique distress, we are able to design a plan to restore good health. We can consider current situations and stresses, biology, social concerns, thoughts, and experiences as we learn about what is troubling you. I am fortunate to have many years of experience and constant study that allow me to offer you a menu of methods for relief. You decide what works for you. My role is to be a mentor, a support, and a teacher. Above all, together we will find hope.
As a psychologist and a nurse, I am able to understand complex physical and mental health issues. With over 40 years in practice, I have learned a wide range of methods that can help you feel better. Therapy is an investment in yourself. Sometimes just a few sessions will provide what you are looking for, and other times we are able to work together over time. My approach is flexible and nonjudgmental. I offer unconditional acceptance as we look for relief. I encourage you to talk with several therapists to see who might be a good match.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
In addition to providing services for adults, teens and elders, I specialize in issues specific to nurses, law enforcement, firefighters and emt's, paramedics, active duty and veteran military personnel. Critical incident certification through International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. I also provide support for active duty and military families with a focus on transitioning to and from deployment. Because I am a nurse and psychologist, people often come in to discuss concerns relatde to complex medical situations either for themselves or a family member.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
I love the complexity of individual biographies. Watching my clients make sense of their history is an amazing process. I love seeing anxiety dissolve and depression turn to hope. It has been my privilege to walk through some of the most difficult traumas one can imagine with my clients and see them find resilience within themselves. I love teaching about psychology in university and community settings. And....while I will never be wealthy, this is the most awesome job in the world because I witness people achieving their full potential.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
First responders, nurses and military are 'fixers'. Many in these professions view asking for help as a 'weakness' and worry that no one can help them. It is easy to forget that underneath professional titles, we are all human. Pain shared is pain divided. Having the courage to reach out until you find effective care is a strength.
