My Approach to Helping
I have 40+ years of working in the field of mental health. I provide both in office sessions and secure online Video sessions. I provide individual, marriage and couples therapy, and family therapy. I provide psychological testing and evaluation for children (age 6-18) and adults (18-65) and older adults 65+ I provide testing for IQ assessment, Personality Assessment, Psychological Disorders, ADHD, Autism, Learning Disorder, Probate Court, Disability, and Mental Competency Exams. I also provide Life Coaching. I treat most psychological conditions; however, I have a passion toward treating Behavioral problems, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, OCD, Agoraphobia, Phobias, PTSD, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and for individuals working in Law Enforcement, or First Responder Personnel, or Military Veterans. Dr. Schulz's personal experience of having suffered from OCD and anxiety and panic attacks earlier in his life and his years of training and experience has helped him in understanding the specialized needs of those facing anxiety disorders and the debilitating symptoms associated with it. My treatment approaches draw from a variety of interventions including: Behavioral Approaches, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Therapy, EFT, EMDR, Energy Psychology, Family Systems, Communication Training, Relaxation Training, Biofeedback training, Guided Imagery, and Psychodynamic approaches. I practice an integrative approach toward dealing with individuals, couples, and families addressing areas that influence your psychological health including body, mind, soul, and spirit. Our relational patterns can either be health promoting or toxic. The same can be said for our underlying ongoing thoughts and our behaviors. What we think and what we do influences our psychological and relational health. I believe too many times we turn to pharmaceuticals to treat conditions and we only end up numbing or masking the underlying conditions rather than obtaining healing. However, I will respect your choice to use medication especially as you have found that to be helpful to you. I share an office with a holistic nurse (an RN) who works independently in her own practice and can make a referral to her if it would best serve your therapeutic needs. I believe in complementary and alternative approaches toward treatment and she has specialized skills and training outside of the field of psychology that she can offer in assisting in your therapy process. Mind, body, soul, and spirit are connected. Having access to a holistic nurse can help you address underlying issues that may be contributing to you mental and emotional condition.
