My Approach to Helping

Please note: I am currently working exclusively on-line, and I do not accept insurance. If this works for you, please read on...

You are not alone.

Maybe you feel that you’re somehow defective if you are experiencing difficulties in life – though this is the very definition of being human. And maybe you’ve heard messages that asking for help is a sign of weakness – when the exact opposite is true!

Humans are not meant to “go it alone”. That’s a dangerous myth. Connection is as vital to well-being as food and water. And you are not alone in experiencing times when you need extra support. Ideally, you will find support with someone who makes you feel safe, unconditionally accepted, and warmly cared about, and who is skilled in their craft. My clients experience me in this way.

Research has shown that no one therapeutic approach is more effective than another – rather, it is the relationship between client and therapist that has the greatest impact on healing. This relational aspect of therapy cannot be taught, but it is a strength that I bring to my work with clients.

As we collaborate in meeting your goals, I will foster a positive, healing, relational experience while employing a variety of therapeutic skills and offering tools to use in everyday life, all tailored to your particular needs.

I am passionate about working with people who are dealing with a wide range of issues, including among other things, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, major transitions, depression, anxiety, addiction, co-dependence, and trauma. My passion for helping others is born from a lifetime of my own challenges in many of these areas, and from a powerful healing experience over a number of years with a very gifted therapist. My own journey has instilled in me a strong belief that healing and growth is always possible, as well as a deep sense of empathy and connection with others who are on their own journey of discovery.

No matter how challenging life feels right now, I am confident that together, we can help you achieve a greater sense of well-being, connection, and wholeness.

I hope you will take the next step and reach out to me. I welcome your call, and the opportunity to explore working together.

I am trained in EMDR and I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

When my clients talk about past negative experiences with therapy, invariably it has something to do with not feeling "seen", "felt", or understood. For this reason I offer a free introductory 20-minute session for potential clients. It's important to get a sense for whether you "click", and if you generally feel safe and comfortable. Even if you have a strong preference for a particular therapeutic approach, I think the most important criteria for choosing a therapist is this sense of connection. Of course, it takes longer than 20 minutes to get to know someone, but if in this time you are not feeling at ease, then that may be a sign to keep looking for a better match.
