My Approach to Helping

Hi, my name is Barbara Allyn and I would love an opportunity to explore with you ways in which you might build a more meaningful life for yourself. I am an integrated wellness professional that starts looking at ways to help you achieve optimal physical and mental health. The three starting pillars are food, sleep, and exercise. Whatever problems you may be suffering or are suffering will be made worse if you are not sleeping well, not eating well, and not moving well. I offer a free 20-minute consultation to anyone who would like to hear more about my approach to better physical and mental health. Please explore my website where you can sign up for a free consultation. I offer both video counseling, online counseling, phone sessions, as well as an office in the Palm Springs area.

More Info About My Practice

Sometimes you just need someone to be there for you. Sometimes just being heard by a compassionate trained professional can have enormous healing effects. Other times not talking but doing some yoga, going for a walk or hike or listening to some good music can be incredibly therapeutic. Together we can figure out what makes sense to put your life back together so you feel positive emotions and a sense of meaning so getting up every morning is a joy.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

Helping me and helping me. My main philosophy about creating a life worth living comes from positive psychology The definition of having a life with meaning comes from Martin Seligman founder of Positive Psychology" Know what your highest strenthgs are and u sing them to belong to and in the service of something bigger than you are". That is what being a therapist means to me.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Being a human being means we are wired for social connection. Although friends and family are well-intended they can never be objective and often give advice that only makes things worse. A therapist has spend years and year learning and being trained to evaluate the human condition and mind from an objective stance. The beauty of going to a therapist is that it is absolutely confidential which means they have learned about how things that may seem impossible to say to another is possible. You can build a relationship with another person in therapy that is different than with other people. Everyone experiences trauma usually many times in their lives and going to someone who can help you and has been educated and trained to help is the wisest decision you can make.

What Makes up a Problem?

That is what we will discover together. Feeling depressed, lonely, can't sleep, hopelessness, anger are just the symptoms of a deeper underlying functioning problem. These feelings are not the problem but tells us there is a problem blocking you from having positive emotions and a meaningful life. Through different ways like talk therapy, EMDR, CBT, and body interventions we will uncover what the blocks are and create a plan for getting you back to feeling like the best you.
