See my profile

As a founder and head Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapist at JK Somatic Therapy, LLC and my other business called The Approachable Healer, I spend my time helping clients heal from trauma symptoms, contracting with corporations or nonprofit agencies in trauma-informed programming, supervising other therapists on individual cases where trauma is prevalent, assisting instruction for Somatic Experiencing Trauma Therapy 4-6 day courses, and writing a book about healing from multiple traumas. I recently was accepted into the writers in residence program at Hedgbrook for my book on trauma. You can hear me on the radio with my progressive, funny comedian friends on Driving It Home with Patti Vasquez https://heartlandsignal.com/wcpt820/ WCPT 820 on the last Monday of every month for Mental Health Monday, and on my own podcast featured on my website. I host a yearly healing retreat called Belly Monster, where we provide art therapy mixed with somatic therapy workshops. I have an undergraduate degree in fine arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a graduate degree in Counseling and Art Therapy from Adler University. When I am not working or writing, I am actively involved in several advocacy organizations. One close to my heart is The Silver Lining Group, which Documentary Filmmaker Eugene Jarecki started. I am also involved in research with a local University studying how somatic therapy can help Veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma. I enjoy learning new things in my free time, reading, writing, walking in the forest, watching comedic plays, and laughing with my family. I have been in several trainings, including SETM Practitioner Touch Skills Training with Kathy Kain, PhD, BASE Trainee (Bodywork and Somatic Education for trauma therapists) with Dave Berger, MFT, PT, LCMHC, MA, SEP, and Compassion Inquiry training completed in the Fall of 2022 (Gabor Mate, MD). For a free 15-minute consultation, book through my website under the One-On-One session tab. I am currently accepting new clients for either JK Somatic Therapy, LLC, or The Approachable Healer. At JK Somatic Therapy, LLC, I offer weekly or bi-weekly sessions, and we can process your insurance payment, depending on your coverage. The Approachable Healer services are self-pay options, designed for monthly or less frequent use.
