My Approach to Helping
What holds you back from true happiness? Do you worry so much that it steals your joy? Are you so exhausted that happiness seems like it would take too much energy? Do you have ghosts from you past that haunt you? It is actually pretty hard to find any woman or queer person who hasn't experienced all of these things!I specialize in helping women and LGBTQ individuals who have anxiety, trauma and body image issues. It is so important to find the right therapist who understands the specific issues that you face so that you don't have to constantly explain yourself, even within a therapy session. I am passionate about helping you learn to feel strong, empowered and of course, happy!
More Info About My Practice
In addition to traditional psychotherapy, I offer hypnotherapy services. I continue to be amazed at the transformative power that hypnotherapy has to get right down to the core of your issues. If you have been struggling with behaviors that are long standing and feel like they will never go away, hypnotherapy may be the key to finally making lasting changes. In addition to standard 50 minute sessions, I offer 80+ minute sessions so that your healing doesn't have to be contained in a predetermined timeframe.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
I believe that every therapist has a life struggle that leads them to the work they do. I have experienced anxiety and body image issues most of life so when I say that I understand how you feel, I really do! I know how it feels to be sitting on the other side of the room as a client and bare my soul to another person that I trust. My struggles with anxiety as well as my resulting growth have helped shape the therapist I am today. Since I know firsthand what anxiety feels like, I also know what it takes to manage it. When you work with me, you will find that I am truly on this journey with you.
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
When I use the term "anxiety" it is a very generic word that describes a set of emotions, thoughts and behaviors experienced by a group of people. That term does not describe who YOU are though. You are so much more than your anxiety. Your anxiety is a result of genetics, upbringing, circumstances, experiences and personality. I want to get to know who are your beyond your anxiety as well. Your hopes, dreams and desires are what will support you in reaching your personal goals.
