My Approach to Helping

My philosophy for therapy is best encapsulated in my mission statement:
"Wellness with Encouragement, Compassion, Dignity, and Trust"
All four of these components should work together in order to provide the best in a therapeutic or helping relationship of any kind in my opinion. While these concepts have equal value here, I place special emphasis on the importance of ENCOURAGEMENT in our therapeutic relationship. "Encouragement" is the most important word in the English language for me and is synonymous with love, respect and, for some, even spirituality. From these values comes strong therapeutic, or for that matter any kind of supportive positive relationship, in which compassion, dignity and trust naturally follows. To be sure the lion's share of the work is yours. But together we can move towards better choices in our lives. I offer short term, mid range and longer term therapy to meet your needs and lifestyle.

More Info About My Practice

I offer short term, mid range and longer term therapy, as well as design therapy to meet and accommodate your lifestyle and scheduling needs. I am able to accept most insurances, with a exceptions. I also do take private pay and can use a moderately priced sliding scale. Read on further for more information.

NOTE: HIPAA COMPLIANT video-based teletherapy for your health & safety during the current COVID 19 situation is available & highly recommended. It is a very simple. ethical, confidential and effective tool to use in therapy. It is an important and safe option to use during the current pandemic. But also note that it will continue to be an ongoing and permanent tool that FYBE will be offering post-pandemic as well.

Thank you,
Jon Rabka MA LPCC

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

I love my work as a therapist and feel honored to be in a field that allows me to have the privilege of participating in the development and personal growth of other individuals in their wellness and recovery at whatever level that is. It takes trust and courage to begin this journey, I know. It is amazing to witness growth and evolvement in ourselves and others. I hope to continue on this journey with you for many years to come.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

There still can be a "stigma" in coming to see a therapist and I certainly understand this. It takes courage to take that first step. What I can tell you is that my philosophy on what are termed "disorders" is that this is description is a serious misnomer in my humble opinion. If anything I prefer the term "condition(s)." Symptoms in any given condition (or "disorder" if we must) are symptoms that everyone experiences in our lives at some time. It is simply that for many they become obstacles in our lives, our work, relationships, school, financial stability and so on. But no diagnosis defines who we are as a whole human being. I do work holistically and will never define or label you by a diagnosis or "disorder." We, as humans, are so much more than that. We work together towards normalizing your symptoms for you, in order to remove the stigma. Then we work towards helping you decrease symptoms, increasing wellness, and foster personal growth in a natural and organic manner.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I am familiar with the experience of judgmental attitudes, non acceptance and intolerance that often seems to be a part of our lives, within our communities, employment, families and even personal relationships. For me I feel that, while these experiences can often be difficult, it has brought compassion, courage and understanding of myself and towards those who come into my life personally and professionally. Not only do I appreciate the diversity in cultures; racial and ethnic groups; sexual orientations and gender identities; the senior, military, veteran and disabled communities and more. I EMBRACE them. It enriches my life and indeed fosters, supports and enhances my humanity and growth as a therapist and a person.
