My Approach to Helping
It's difficult to summarize my approach as I don’t apply a ‘one-size-fits all’ process to my clients. I know how it feels to be a client in therapy, and I've been told that I'm not intimidating and, more importantly, that I'm kind. I don't regard myself as an expert on your life (you are the expert on your own life). If our work together is a journey, I don't tell you what do do and where to go. Rather, I go along with you and I use my map and understanding of the psychological territory to help you to navigate what it is that you need to go through. I am gentle and I will challenge you to unpack unhelpful ways of thinking that hurt you. I have seen time and again how far we can go when we are encouraged and have someone in our corner who genuinely cares.
I know it can be difficult to find a therapist who you feel connected to, someone who you can open up to. That is why I offer a free consultation session, with no strings attached. This consultation gives you a chance to get a feel for how I work as a therapist. In this consultation we can look at what’s going on for you and figure out how you can move forward. You can also use this time to ask me any questions about therapy that you may have.
