My Approach to Helping

What I love most about therapy is helping my clients achieve breakthroughs! Sometimes the breakthrough comes when an individual gets clear about what their needs are. Sometimes when they realize they really are able to solve a problem together that seemed unsolvable.

My training and experience as a marriage and family therapist allows me to help couples make progress towards their relationship goals. Being in love is beautiful, but sometimes that alone is not enough to fix relationship problems. Sometimes you need help navigating the strains of relationship distress to find your way back to each other. Other times, it’s the suppressed emotions that create today’s conflicts. For me, there’s value in helping couples find direction in this process. I help couples identify barriers to intimacy and connection by uncovering their unmet emotional and physical needs. My goal is to create a safe, accepting, caring, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel increasingly comfortable expressing those unspoken emotions.

In my work with couples, the primary focus is on understanding each person’s experience in the relationship, along with their individual needs, expectations, and wants. I may assign individual sessions as part of the couples ‘work’ so that I can learn more about the “you” before you were a part of the “couple”. It is important for me to understand your family of origin, past traumas and previous experiences because together, they inform how you function in relationships.

Relationship challenges can cause you to feel stress, worry, and uncertainty. In my work with individual clients, I explore all types of relating to people to better understand the source of the anxiety or depression. I want to understand the source so that together we can tap into resilience, coping strategies, and tools. Your experiences are unique to you, your response makes sense in the context of your past. My goal with you will be to re-evaluate how you respond and make it align better with how you want to respond.

It's time to get off the emotional roller coaster and get your life back on track. Schedule your appointment with me today. I'm here for you!

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

Therapy is truly for anyone who is looking to enhance their personal life. It?s your opportunity to be selfish and only focus on you. In couples therapy, it?s a safe space to share your relationship woes and get help from an unbiased, non-judgemental person. The reality is we are often just stuck at a place in life where either an internal or external change must take place in order for us to move forward. Therapy can help you identify your unique barriers, make the shift, and equip you with the skills needed to solve both your current and future problems. We all have but one life to live, and sometimes we need a little help cultivating one worth living and relationships worth loving.
