My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
My approach in therapy is collaborative, supportive, and goal oriented.
For over 13 years, I have dedicated myself to supporting people of all ages through a range of stressors, including anxiety, depression, tense family dynamics, grief, chronic illness, and life transitions. In this work, I’ve seen firsthand the tremendous pressures individuals face to appear “okay” and the self-blame that often comes from not meeting unrealistic societal expectations. These experiences have deepened my passion for helping those who are entering parenthood, raising young children, caregiving, redefining roles and boundaries in relationships, and navigating the complexities of grief and loss. Taking the first step to address emotional challenges is an act of tremendous courage, and you don’t have to face it alone. When life feels overwhelming, a strong therapeutic relationship can provide the support needed to navigate your journey toward growth and meaningful change. Together, we can draw on your strengths and collaboratively focus on your goals. If you choose to work together, we can uncover underlying barriers and unhelpful patterns contributing to your distress, while also identifying and strengthening your personal resources to foster growth. My clients frequently describe feeling genuinely listened to, understood, and met with warmth and authenticity during our sessions.
I believe that a successful path to achieving growth and change in therapy starts with feeling a comfortable and collaborative connection to your therapist. I strive to help my patients establish goals and feel a sense of progress in therapy. I meet my patients where they are emotionally and help guide them in the direction they hope to be. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Interpersonal Therapy in my practice. I also use CBT-I for insomnia as well as EMDR for trauma work. I provide a relaxed, judgement-free environment. In today's world, the level of anxiety and depression has been on the rise, especially in the younger generations. I strive to remove the stigma of mental health treatment for my patients. I also utilize teletherapy to assist patients who cannot get to the office regularly. My practice also provides parent training to assist parents with their child's symptoms or diagnosis. I conduct neuropsychological, psychoeducational, and psychological evaluations to examine symptoms, diagnose, and provide thorough and detailed recommendations. I work with children ages 6-12, adolescents ages 13-17 and adults ages 18 and up.
I believe therapy is a way toward a fuller, more satisfying life. Together we will journey past the obstacles to greater self-esteem, more satisfying relationships, work and play. I engage actively with you but am guided by your individual needs and wishes. I believe therapy can help you to find ways to expand the strengths you already have and add new skills, experiences and ways of seeing yourself. I work in an eclectic manner and am particularly interested in the unity of body and mind. How we think and feel are intimately connected and I am interested in bringing together the various dichotomies that confound us: thoughts and feelings, past and future, work and creativity, self and other.
Available Sundays and 5pm and 6pm during weekdays. Do you just want to get better or do you want to thrive? I have been working in behavioral health for 16 years, and it has been a very rewarding experience. I have an energetic and enthusiastic approach and stay up-to-date with the latest information to provide the best care possible. I am well versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Positive Psychology (the study of optimizing functionality). I am originally from New York, so I have had the opportunity to gain experience at reputable institutions such as New York Presbyterian Hospital and Montefiore Health System. In California, I was the Director of the Behavioral Health Department at Salinas Valley Health from 2020 to 2024. I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults with almost all types of diagnoses. I have many years of experience helping people address and overcome depression, anxiety, sports performance, borderline personality disorder, trauma, relationship issues, work stress, grief, and difficult life transitions. Depending on what you would like to get out of therapy, we may focus on getting to the root cause(s), improve communication skills, adapt to situations effectively, explore coping skills, and modify behavior. I earned my BA in Psychology from Boston College and my Master of Social Work from Fordham University. I also earned my MBA in Healthcare Administration in 2019. Outside of work, I enjoy boxing, playing golf, yoga, lifting weights, and going to the beach! What to expect? The first appointment is a thorough interview to get to know you. I will ask about upbringing, childhood, family, education, occupation, hobbies, social life, and psychiatric history. In follow-up sessions, we develop a strategy to address your goals. The therapy approach is contingent on the goals. Contact me to make an appointment! I look forward to working with you!
Finding the right therapist can be a very confusing and overwhelming process! On your initial visit, I will spend a generous amount of time with you on your presenting concerns and your goals for therapy. Having 16 years of experience, I can accurately assess the type of therapy that would be most useful for your specific situation. My specialty is Cognitive Behavior Therapy and I find most clients achieve significant progress with this approach. When you work with me, together we'll break down your patterns of thinking and behaviors that cause anxiety, depression, and hold you back from enjoying life. You will develop the skills to feel better and create positive change. Many clients find my style a "very refreshing" change from their former therapy. In couples therapy, I use a highly structured format that enables couples to communicate in a way they never have before. This new way of communication gets right to the core issues. My approach to couples therapy brings resolution to issues much faster than traditional therapy. I am available by phone to discuss any questions or concerns you have before beginning therapy.
In my practice, my goal is to create a safe space that allows for real human connection and support in identifying what challenges you are hoping to overcome. You can expect to be met with empathy and genuine curiosity. I appreciate and value the opportunity to be let into someone's life, to learn about them, and support them in being the person they want to be - it's a privilege I don't take lightly.
What makes a good life? Plenty of money, you may say. Or good health. Professional success. A long-term relationship. Getting to your goal weight. Having a large apartment in your chosen neighborhood. Children. Newsflash: These can be components of a miserable life or a satisfying one! What do I mean by this? A good life starts from the inside! We all know people who are in peak health and are unhappy. And you have probably heard of terminally ill people who are fully enjoying their remaining time. Same with money or lack of it. Same with professional success, long-term relationships, etc. There are people who seem to be doing very well on paper who are miserable, and people who are not doing well by external standards who are a pleasure to be around. What makes the difference is being able to deal with the people and situations in your life today, and to learn to be happy yourself, rather than looking for someone else to make you feel good about yourself or to make you happy. Walking around feeling insecure, depressed, anxious, lacking a sense of purpose, or feeling like you are a burden to your friends, this is not the life you dreamed of having as a child, and it’s not the life you want today. How do you go from here to a satisfying life? Good therapy makes all the difference in the world. Starting therapy is a sign of strength, and that’s something to feel good about. I bring empathy, warmth, curiosity, and the courage to sit with you in your pain, and to help you find a way through. There may be tears, and there will also be some laughter along the way. This is life, after all. I’ve been working with individuals and couples since 1995. My approach is to connect with you, get to know you, relate, and bring a deep understanding of human psychology to our work together, so you can define and create a satisfying life for yourself. Your idea of a satisfying life is unique to you, not a one-size-fits-all life reached by a one-size-fits-all therapy. You don’t have to be perfect to have a good life. The people in your life don’t have to be perfect, nor do your circumstances. Whew! What a relief! Life can be messy and unpredictable, and you can still look for and enjoy the bright spots, and be in love with your life. I’d like to work with you, help you create that life, and help you deal with the things, past and present, that get in the way of your enjoyment. Maybe you’re dealing with depression, anxiety, job stress, illness, difficulty in relationships, substance-use issues, a recent breakup, a move, family pressures, whatever this messy life sends your way. Whether you’re a recent graduate adjusting to life beyond college, the parent of someone “leaving the nest,” or you’re dealing with the death of a loved one, starting a career, or looking at retirement, whatever your challenges are, I’m here to help you face them, learn to handle them in a way you can look back on and feel good about, and learn from the mistakes we all make along the way as humans. We’ll work together to help you find the joy in everyday life!
Over the past 30 years, I have had the privilege of working with individuals from all walks of life. My approach is grounded in a deep respect for the individual human spirit and a true belief in the therapeutic relationship as a means to create a sense of possibility in life and a desire to move forward. We all have the answers to those challenging questions within us. My hope is to facilitate this process of recovery.
I view therapy as a collaborative process to which we both bring insight, feedback, expertise. Your experience and growth is central to the process and my goal is to facilitate a rewarding and productive process for you. Whether you are grappling with anxiety, sadness, conflict, fear, or any other human experience, I will approach the issue with curiosity, warmth and honesty.
I believe the key to successful treatment is creating a safe, nonjudgmental space that enhances shared curiosity and connection. I will work with you to identify thoughts and behaviors that may be limiting your potential to lead your most fulfilling and meaningful life. Together, we will get to the root of these self-limiting thoughts and behaviors. I have experience working with adults of all ages and backgrounds. I am particularly passionate about supporting clients going through fertility challenges and entering parenthood.
Perhaps your relationships, career, or creative pursuits are not going as you would like. Challenges around identity and sense of self may be plaguing you. You may feel bogged down by feeling frustrated, unmotivated, anxious, overwhelmed, guilty, ashamed, or sad. Whatever your struggles, together we can help you better understand what’s going on and what may be getting in the way of change. I take as a basic premise that you are more than a collection of symptoms or a problem to be fixed, and believe that all you bring to the table deserves our full attention and exploration. My approach is individualized and interactive, with a focus on long-term, sustainable change. I bring to my work substantive training, many years of practice, and patience, empathy, curiosity, humor, and reliability. I am dedicated to working with people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and identities, and am well-versed, particularly in work with creatives, ex-pats, transcultural couples, adult children of immigrants and third culture kids, biracial men and women, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, and non-binary individuals and their families. Areas of special interest to me include relationship difficulties, loneliness, identity issues, creative blocks, loss, struggles with self-compassion, and family estrangement. Self-knowledge is good medicine. Therapy takes courage, but can promote dramatic growth and help you attain a greater sense of well-being and a freer and more satisfying life.
