Because of the stigma of substance use disorders, I don't take insurance. Alcohol/drug problems in your history may keep you from being accepted into the next health plan you apply for. Paying out of pocket has many benefits f... especially regarding substance use.
Also, I am a counselor, not a therapist. Counseling is different from psychotherapy or psychiatry. Counseling is for the mentally well having life difficulties.
Psychotherapy/psychiatry is for the mentally ill. Unlike a Social Worker or psychotherapist, I refuse to give you a mental illness diagnosis if you don't have a mental illness. If you're not mentally ill, I won't be telling your insurance company you are 'mentally unwell' or 'addicted' so they'll pay for your counseling. My clients are willing to pay out of pocket for this level of privacy because it's worth it.

For your sake, I don't want you to involve your insurance payor in the private matter of counseling... especially regarding substance use.
Substance use disorders are my specialty because I have personal experience with the challenges of getting and staying clean and sober. My own substance use disorders have been in full remission 20+ years. I understand the suffering first hand. I know what it's like and I know the way out.
I have a particular interest, skill and experience in working with couples and families in which substance use disorders have occurred. I normally charge $80 for a one hour session. If this is beyond your means, I am usually able to accommodate a sliding scale option.
