My Approach to Therapy

I strive to provide an encouraging, non-judgmental atmosphere where we collaborate to identify and move toward your goals. Im a Positive Psychology-focused therapist, believing that people tend to live up to your view of them. Im an active learner in the field of Relationship and Happiness research. Whether you've had a long history of destructive relationships or this is the first time youre having issues, I can help you turn your relationship(s) around and improve your level of life peace and joy! I work with couples where there has been aggressiveness and or infidelity. Domestic violence and emotional abuse in relationships have long been my specialty. I am certifying in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, two evidence-based couples therapies. (And I still take insurance!) I work with individual older adolescents and adults, couples, and various types of family units, including throuples, polyamorous, and open relationships. I have a knack for helping those who work in the sex industry. Im LGBTQIA+ friendly. I understand and am comfortable working with the complexities of modern relationships. I teach a highly effective and engaging Emotional Regulation program for those on the under-regulated side of the emotional spectrum (e.g., anger, anxiety, etc., outside of the bounds you're comfortable with). For those on the over-controlled side of the spectrum regarding their emotions, I offer RO-DBT therapy (e.g., Autism spectrum, Anorexia, OCD), amongst other therapies. I can also provide CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy). CPT is an evidence-based treatment specifically for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). EMDR is highly effective for trauma, too, and it is perfect for certain types of people, such as those for whom cognitive therapy is less effective. Credentials: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider (LSOTP), and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Trinity Univ., two Master's degrees (one in Professional Counseling and Marriage & one in Family Therapy) from Amberton U., and a Doctorate in Psychology (with a specialty in Family Psychology) from Capella University. Publications include Why Men Batter in the Canadian Journal of Adlerian Psychology, 2006. I have many specialty certifications. P.S. Currently (04-04-2026), my practice is FULL for COUPLES. Still, please contact me to be added to my wait list, as things are more likely to change quickly with couples.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Research shows that those who go to therapy have a higher sense of self-value than those who don't. It takes some self-worth to reach out and ask for help. I often recommend to their family members who don't yet see the value of therapy Guy Winch's TED talk "Emotional First Aid".
