My Approach to Helping
“Psychotherapy done well is a journey to liberation.” --Alain de Botton
I strive to provide an encouraging & non-judgmental atmosphere where I collaborate with you to identify & move toward your goals. I’m Positive Psychology focused, believing that people tend to live up to your view of them.
I’m an active learner of the Relationship and Happiness research. Whether you've had a long history of destructive relationships or this is the first time you’re having issues, I can help you turn your relationship(s) around and I can help you turn your level of life peace and joy around too.
I work with older adolescents, individual adults, couples and families. I work with couples where there has been aggressiveness and-or infidelity. Domestic violence and emotional abuse in relationships has long been my specialty. I also help those in throuples, poly, and open relationships. And I have a knack for helping those who work in the sex industry. I’m LGBTQ friendly. I understand and am comfortable working with the complexities of modern relationships.
I teach a highly effective and engaging Emotional Regulation program for those with under-regulated emotions. For those on the over-controlled side of the spectrum (re their emotions) I offer RO-DBT therapy. I also do EMDR--a recent meta-analysis showed this to be the most effective treatment for trauma.
I do only TeleHealth = sessions by video. Currently, I'm accepting new clients. And you get one year to work with me (people accomplish much more when they have a deadline).
Credentials: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider, a Marriage & Family Therapist-Associate, and a Nationally Certified Counselor. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Trinity Univ., 2 Masters degrees (Professional Counseling and Marriage & Family Therapy) from Amberton U., and a Doctorate in Family Psychology from Capella University. Publications include “Why Men Batter” in Canadian Journal of Adlerian Psychology, 2006. I have many specialty certifications, and I'm currently certifying in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) a research shown highly effective treatment, especially for couples.
