My Approach to Helping

I have a strong passion for helping others. Nothing brings me joy quite like the experience of seeing people I work with not only successfully navigate some of their difficulties, but also find new joy and meaning in their lives overall. I believe therapy should enhance the quality of your life, not simply focus on your challenges.

My approach to helping you is often through identifying and maximizing your internal strengths. When we feel stressed and discouraged, what we crave first and foremost is to feel understood and validated, only then are we open to different perspectives and ways of looking at our circumstances. I work to create an encouraging, compassionate, and nonjudgmental atmosphere that will help you feel safe and encouraged to lean into the discomfort of introspection. I will help you to work with the parts of yourself that may be interfering with your feeling happy and satisfied with your life and relationships.

More Info About My Practice

I have quite a bit of experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, including LGBTQ individuals, couples, and immigrants. Hablo Espanol.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy should focus on improving your well-being, as much, if not more, than your deficits. Unlike many therapists, I do not see my primary function as symptom-reduction. Just because you're not miserable in your marriage, does not mean you are happily committed. Nor does not feeling depressed mean that you are feeling content and optimistic about your life. The absence of symptoms is not health. Psychotherapy should help you see yourself holistically, so that you can have a good sense of both your areas of growth as well as your signature strengths.
