I work with adults and couples who are thoughtful, capable, and often accustomed to handling life well, but have reached a point where their usual ways of coping no longer seem to be working. They may feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or unsure of what they want, or they may find themselves repeating patterns in their relationships or work that they don’t fully understand. I also work with people navigating major transitions such as divorce, parenting, career changes, loss, questions of purpose, and the complicated process of figuring out what comes next. My approach is psychodynamic, direct, and deeply curious about what is happening beneath the surface. I help clients understand not only what they are struggling with, but why they respond to life and relationships in the ways they do. Together, we explore patterns, defenses, fears, expectations, and the stories people develop about themselves and others. I value openness and honesty in the therapeutic relationship, and I’m comfortable saying what I see when I think something may be important for a client to consider, even when it may be difficult to hear. At the same time, I want clients to feel that they can bring anything into the room without fear of judgment. My style is warm, engaged, and conversational, and I often use humor and playfulness to bring some lightness to difficult conversations and reduce shame around things that can feel hard to talk about. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New York with extensive experience working with individuals and couples. My work draws from psychodynamic, attachment, relational, and differentiation-oriented approaches. I provide psychotherapy through my private practice, The Mindful Map Mental Health Counseling, PLLC, based in New York City. I offer therapy exclusively through secure virtual sessions to clients throughout New York State. My practice is private pay, with superbills provided for clients seeking possible out-of-network insurance reimbursement.
I believe that we are all meant to live happy lives, full of meaning. I feel strongly that the adversities we face in our lifetime can serve us well by providing us with the opportunity to gain a higher plain of purpose. My passion and excitement for providing psychotherapy stem from my desire to help individuals discover how they can use their negative experiences in a way that benefits their lives.
I am a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who provides compassionate, patient-centered care across the lifespan. My experience in emergency medicine, primary care, urgent care, and behavioral health allows me to take a holistic approach that recognizes the important connection between physical and mental well-being. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and individualized treatment planning. My approach is warm, attentive, and collaborative. I take time to understand each patient’s complete story, not only their symptoms, so we can identify underlying concerns and develop a practical treatment plan that supports their needs, goals, and lifestyle. I earned my master’s degree in nursing from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón and completed family nursing training at Long Island University Brooklyn. I remain committed to evidence-based care and strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered to achieve meaningful, lasting improvements in their health.
When triggered by the right stressors, the genes we are born with can lead to anxiety, depression, mood swings, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts, hallucinations. And throughout life, we may experience abuse, neglect, loss, poverty, trauma and situations that make us feel “stuck.” Most stressors require support via therapy. Some respond better to medications. Whether it's ongoing therapy, medication, or a combination of the two, I will give you the evidence-based research. YOU will decide what's best for you.

Hi I’m Elsa (she, they), a NYC clinical psychologist specializing in life transitions, identity, and spirituality (meaning, purpose, and connection). I’m also passionate about serving communities that have historically experienced barriers to whole-person care including LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Asian American, and neurodivergent (gifted, 2e, autistic, highly sensitive) teens, adults, partners, and families of all kinds. My practice integrates cultural diversity, health psychology, and identity development in exploring meaning, skills enhancement, and values based living. It takes courage to seek help for your personal struggles, and it takes persistence to keep trying. I learned this myself as a young college student facing painful life challenges. The help my own therapist offered me inspired me to offer assistance to others. I have more than 27 years of experience working with adults and adolescents in individual and family settings. I offer a well-trained ear to listen to your problems, as well as caring, warmth, and the ability to ask the right questions. My office is a safe and confidential place that allows you to explore painful losses, anxiety, relationship challenges, past trauma and pain, and unhealthy habits. I maintain healthy boundaries while being genuine and empathetic. Although I've been practicing for many years, I believe that life is a learning process and education never ends. I work in consultation with supervisors and colleagues so that I remain up-to-date on the most effective treatments. I'll do everything I can to offer you the help you seek, but if there is a way in which I can't assist you, I'll help you find the resources you need. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, and know that I admire the bravery it takes to embark on the path toward healing and change.
I am currently taking new patients who are experiencing problems with work, school and/or relationships that are due to obsessive and problematic usage of internet/computer/video games. Depression and anxiety are often associated with excessive use of these interactive technologies. Within the past seven years, I have seen a significant rise in my practice in people who have experienced major difficulties that have been rooted in spending too much time online, or excessively involved in one or more forms of interactive technology (i.e., computer/video games). For some, it has to do with excessive internet surfing. For others, it may involve multi-user online games (e.g., World of Warcraft, Call of Duty). A growing number of people have reported spending ("wasting") hours upon hours on blogs, watching Youtube vidoes, and on Facebook, Tumblr, and other social networking sites.

I collaborate with arts and helping professionals on a variety of issues, including: finding your voice in negotiation and relationships, getting creative projects and careers off the ground, identifying what's working in your life--and what's not--and how to change things for the better. I also work with issues around bereavement and loss. My training and approach combines psychodynamic, mindbody and mindfulness aspects. I have expertise in stress management (how to handle the present), trauma recovery (how to integrate the past) and creative breakthroughs and empowerment (how to build a future). When appropriate, I use EMDR, a proven method of symptom relief from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); meditation and breathing exercises and other techniques. Equally if not more important is how we fit together as a working team. I invite you to consult with me for one or two sessions and see if you'd like to work with me.
