As a Rapid Transformational Therapist , I'm passionate about helping individuals rewire their brains to project positive images and words. I believe in the power of beliefs—first you make your beliefs, and then your beliefs make you. My mission is to empower others to break free from limiting beliefs and unlock their true potential. I chose to become an RTT therapist because I find the approach both creative and innovative, and I'm excited to work with clients to help them improve their lives. I can help you identify and overcome negative thought patterns that may be holding you back. By becoming more attuned to your beliefs, you can create a brighter, more positive future for yourself. Let's work together to unleash the best version of you!
The choice to begin therapy is a courageous one. I consider it a great privilege to partner with people as they work to improve various aspects of their lives. I provide a safe, empathetic, and warm environment to encourage exploration and personal growth. Everyone entering therapy has a unique set of goals; I work to meet those specific needs and desires through an eclectic approach of interpersonal, cognitive behavioral (CBT), and solution-focused therapy. I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, bereavement, PTSD, and substance abuse.
People are unique and have varied life experiences that often are the templates for future interactions with others. Using a variety of interventions, specific to the individual, couple, or family, a collaborative interaction helps one to reach goals. Trained in many theoretical orientations I use what works best for the unique individual. From the difficult to treat child and adolescent, to the adult facing divorce, occupational crisis, or life re-evaluation, our work together is goal oriented.
I practice in a Relational psychoanalytic style in which we work together to honestly, creatively and sensitively address whatever issues, conflicts, losses and dysfunctions you may be contending with. With 34 years wide-ranging clinical experience and extensive postgraduate training, my aim is to promote a steady and supportive therapeutic connection between us where all thoughts, feelings, behaviors and other aspects of your unique self may be safely revealed, explored and understood. My areas of specialization include all forms of addictive disorders (alcohol, drugs, sexual compulsivity, eating disorders, gambling), trauma issues and personality disorders as well as depression, grief and loss, LGBTQ issues, chronic medical illness and sexual concerns. Throughout my career, I have worked empathically and effectively with an adult clientele of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds as well as all sexual and gender identifications. I bring both passion and compassion to my work and welcome the opportunity to share the therapeutic journey with anyone to whom I can be helpful.
If you're feeling stretched thin between your work, your relationship, or both, and you're exhausted from carrying it alone, you're not imagining how heavy it's become. Maybe you and your partner keep having the same fight without knowing why. Maybe you're successful everywhere except in the parts of your life that matter most. Either way, you're likely here because you're ready for something to actually change, not just to talk about it. I'm Jon Abelack, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Connecticut, and I work with couples and individuals dealing with relationship strain, career stress, and burnout. Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 20 years in high-stakes careers, so I understand firsthand what it's like to perform under pressure while your personal life quietly falls apart in the background. I bring that same direct, no-nonsense approach into the room. My work draws on Gestalt therapy and Relational Life Therapy, which means we don't just talk about your problems in the abstract. We pay close attention to what's actually happening between us right now, because that usually tells us more than any story about the past. I'll help you communicate more honestly, break the patterns that keep tripping you up, and set the boundaries you've been avoiding, whether that's with a partner, at work, or with yourself. This isn't therapy that drifts for years without direction. It's active, it's honest, and it's built to get you real, lasting movement toward a relationship, or a life, that actually works. If you're ready to feel grounded again, more connected, and back in control, I'd welcome the chance to talk about how we might work together.
I approach therapy through a collaborative and relational lens, working with clients to understand their challenges within the broader context of their relationships and lived experiences. Drawing from collaborative therapy and systemic sex therapy, I partner with clients to explore how family dynamics, early life experiences, and past traumas shape present-day concerns, particularly in intimacy, authenticity, and communication. Together, we uncover unconscious patterns that influence choices and relational dynamics, fostering deeper connection and self-awareness. I support individuals and partners in navigating intense symptoms of anxiety and depression, and guide them through significant life transitions—such as career shifts, divorce, or entering college—with compassion, curiosity, and a commitment to shared meaning-making.

I believe that people already carry within them the capacity to grow, heal, and change. My role is to create a relationship where that capacity has room to surface. My approach is person-centered at its core: I offer warmth, unconditional positive regard, and genuine respect for your autonomy, because I've found that people move forward most fully when they feel understood rather than managed. Much of my work is with capable, driven people who are quietly running on empty. If you're navigating burnout, high-functioning anxiety, or the steady wear of daily pressures like long commutes, parenting, or raising a teenager, you'll find a space here to slow down, be heard, and make sense of what's happening. Sessions are collaborative and grounded in the present. We'll look at the patterns that keep you in overdrive, build practical tools you can use right away, and reconnect you with what matters most. As a licensed clinical social worker with Caribbean roots, I bring cultural sensitivity and a deep respect for resilience to everything I do. My style is warm, direct, and free of judgment. If any of this resonates, I'd be glad to hear from you.

I believe effective mental health care begins with listening carefully and understanding the whole person, not simply identifying symptoms. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based. I take time to understand each patient’s experiences, concerns, cultural background, personal values, and treatment goals so we can develop a plan that feels both clinically appropriate and personally meaningful. I work with adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing concerns such as depression, anxiety, attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), bipolar challenges, psychosis, trauma, mood-related challenges, and substance use. Depending on each patient’s needs, treatment may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral strategies, mindfulness techniques, motivational interviewing, and practical coping skills. I strive to create a respectful, nonjudgmental environment where patients feel comfortable discussing difficult experiences. When spirituality is important to a patient, I welcome incorporating it into treatment. My goal is to help each person better understand what they’re experiencing, strengthen their ability to manage challenges, and make meaningful progress toward greater stability and well-being.
You may be looking for help because your teenager or young adult feels overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, emotionally reactive, withdrawn, or uncertain about how to move forward. School stress, ADHD, changing relationships, greater independence, family tension, or the transition to college and adulthood may be affecting daily life. As a parent, you may also be unsure how to remain supportive without taking over. At Psychological Services of New York, my clinical team and I work with teenagers, college students, young adults, parents, and families throughout Westchester. My approach is practical, collaborative, and individualized. I take the time to understand the whole person and how emotional concerns, relationships, family dynamics, school, work, and developmental changes may be influencing one another. Therapy should not feel rigid or scripted. I use an integrative approach that draws from cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, humanistic and person-centered care, behavioral strategies, and lifestyle-based interventions. This allows treatment to be tailored to your needs, strengths, goals, and stage of life rather than forcing one method onto every client. Our work may involve understanding patterns, developing practical coping skills, strengthening relationships, improving emotional regulation, and building greater confidence and direction. When appropriate, I also work with parents to help them better understand what their child is experiencing and find a healthier balance between support and independence. Whether the concern involves anxiety, ADHD, depression, school or college stress, emotional regulation, relationship difficulties, parenting concerns, family conflict, or another important life transition, the goal is to make sense of what is happening and develop realistic steps toward meaningful change.
