My Approach to Helping
Over the past 20 years, I have had the privilege of working with and learning from hundreds of individuals, couples and families as they have wrestled with the challenges of their lives. I believe that my clients find me to be very down to earth and human so it is easier for them to open up and be real with me. Every person's story and circumstances are unique but if someone is helped by the work we do together, it is generally because we form a relationship of trust and connection. In addition to practicing psychotherapy, I have been affiliated at Harvard Business School providing career coaching to current students and alumni. Through this work, I have developed a deep understanding and appreciation of the interplay between peoples' work and their psychological well-being. I also teach psychology courses at Harvard, including Human Sexuality and the Psychology of Happiness.

More Info About My Practice
Given my experience, I have been able to work with people at all ages and stages to help them navigate their way to more satisfying work and relational lives. I would be happy to speak with you and see if I could be helpful to you with your unique concerns.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

Sadly, it is not uncommon for someone to have had an unhelpful experience with therapy. There are so many types of psychotherapy and of course, each therapist has a unique style of working which is not going to be effective with everyone. I generally suggest that people try a few sessions to see if it is helpful and see if they can feel comfortable with the therapist and the process. Also, if they have had prior negative experiences, it's best to let me know so we can work together to help address those concerns.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

While I don't think that one needs to have experienced the same exact issue to be empathic and effective, my own life experiences have certainly seasoned me as a person and probably have made me a better therapist. Over the years, I have become even less judgmental and more compassionate about how hard life can get sometimes. Further, I have also experienced both personally and professionally the enormous human capacity for resilience and healing. These experiences have enhanced my capacity to be calm, courageous and hopeful when sitting with people experiencing serious challenges.
