My Approach to Helping
CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS

Sometimes life is so overwhelming and stressful that we just need a time-out, a space where it's safe to say what is really bothering us, a place where we can be heard and where we can sort out all the conflicting feelings. I believe that the therapy room can also be a great place to practice the changes we want to make without fear of being ridiculed. In order to create change, I will help you identify what is not working and develop new ways of thinking, coping, and communicating. My approach is primarily cognitive-behavioral with a focus on assessing how you interact within various systems including your family, peers, work setting, etc. Often people are coping well in one system but not in another and I help people figure out how to use those positive coping skills in more areas of life. Whether you are dealing with a difficult teenager, the death of a loved one, or conflict in your relationship, things can get better. What I love about being a therapist is the opportunity to be a helping hand, whether it be for a day, a month, or a year. I would be honored to help you through that process.
As a Christian, I believe that our spiritual lives greatly impact our thoughts, behaviors, and relationships and I strive to treat people with love and compassion as Jesus taught. You may or may not come to me regarding a spiritual issue, but please know that you can discuss that with me if you choose.

Have more questions before you decide to choose me as your therapist? You can schedule a free 20-minute therapist interview. The purpose of this appointment is to make sure you feel comfortable with me and to ask general questions about the therapy process, what your role is and what you can expect from me. This is not a problem solving session.
You may also email or call me to discuss your questions or concerns.

How Psychotherapy Can Help

Psychotherapy is a place where a person can get a time-out from life, where she can explore and express her honest thoughts and feelings about herself, friends, family members, and life in general. The therapy room is a place to rail about how unfair it is when someone dies or takes advantage of us; it's a place to be reassured and encouraged when we step out of our comfort zone; it's a place where we can safely show our vulnerabilities, the self that we hide when we are out in our competitive and critical society.

Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed

Every person has the capability of being resilient. However, not all of us have been taught positive, non-destructive ways of coping. We all get caught up in action and reactions, just as boats on the sea get tossed about by waves. Sometimes we just need an extra person there to help us get back on course. We're not weak or flawed, but not every task in life can be accomplished by one person. We need other people sometimes, not to fix us, just to help us. Just as a builder will call in an electrician to help safely wire a house, you can call in a therapist to help you safely navigate through challenging relationships or experiences.
