Women’s Sexuality Across the Lifespan

In this 2-hour continuing education webinar, Dr. Stephanie Buehler will share her Eco-Sexual™ Assessment to understand how psychological, biological, relational, and social changes interact to create changes and potential sexual issues as a woman moves through her adult years. Dr. Buehler will cover issues that arise in young adulthood; during the reproductive years, including infertility, pregnancy, and postpartum sexuality; and menopause. Dr. Buehler will also outline sex therapy approaches clinicians can use in therapy to help resolve common problems that arise over the course of a woman’s lifetime.

This introductory continuing education webinar is designed to help mental health clinicians:

1. Utilize an eco-sexual™ approach to assessing sexual issues in women at different times across the lifespan in a diverse population of women.
2. Define female sexual health and its applicability to an understanding of sexual satisfaction and pleasure in a diverse population of women.
3. Describe how infertility, pregnancy, and the postpartum period affect a woman’s sexuality and her intimate relationship in heterosexual and sexual minority women.
4. Describe how menopause affects a woman’s sexuality and her intimate relationship in heterosexual and sexual minority women.
5. Identify at least three interventions for the most common sexual issues in a diverse population of women, including low desire, complaints about orgasm, and painful intercourse.

Statement of program material’s accuracy, utility, and risks: Some people may be offended by the discussion of female sexuality. Although no crude language will be used in this webinar, potential attendees need to be prepared to hear comments about sexual behaviors that are both common and uncommon. References for the course material will be included with the presentation. Please note this 2-hour course will have a limited focus on the sexuality of cisgender women and will not cover transgender women's sexuality in depth. The developmental trajectory of transgender people is complex and much more varied due to social factors.
