A loved one’s journey toward recovery in 2000 sparked a desire for change, and brought Dr. Somerville to the counseling field. After earning a degree in counseling psychology, Melanie facilitated the pain recovery program at one of the largest medical pain management practices in Texas. Additional training at the prestigious Gestalt Institute of Cleveland shaped her philosophy concerning the primacy of authenticity and relationship in counseling. From this foundation, Dr. Somerville integrates mind and body to facilitate greater self-awareness and insightful change. Dr. Somerville received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and completed her doctorate in counseling psychology at St. Mary’s University. Dr. Somerville’s doctoral research focused on women’s relationships after divorce. Dr. Somerville enjoys outdoor activities, dogs, chocolate, knitting, reading and spending time with friends and family.
