I am a clinical psychologist in private practice. I work with adults who seek help for relationship concerns, depression, anxiety, attention deficits, substance useabuse, traumas big and small, and many other questions that come up in daily life. An open and honest dialogue is possible in an atmosphere of listening and thinking. Our sessions are private and confidential. Talking things out is the first and easiest ways to identify the root causes of many problems. Thinking things through is like putting together a puzzle. You might already know what the final picture will be and getting there is a very fruitful journey.
I work with clients across Washington state and the greater Seattle area, offering individual therapy using insight-oriented, and mindfulness-based approaches as well as EMDR. I meet with clients using an online or telehealth platform. My focus is on helping adult men facing depression, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions; working with them to build the self-awareness and tools needed to shift old patterns of thinking and behavior that no longer serve them. I help my clients to slow down, look inward, and meet life more skillfully. When trauma or emotional overwhelm occurs, the nervous system can get "stuck" in the experience. I am trained in EMDR, a technique that works to supporting and strengthen a client’s own nervous system's capacity to process difficult events, allowing that stuck experience to move and resolve. Sessions run about 55 minutes, with our first few focused on clarifying your goals. I know taking that first step isn't easy. If you'd like to explore whether we're a good fit, reach out to schedule a free 20-minute consultation - I'll answer your questions and we can talk through what you're looking for. I look forward to meeting you.

I use a holistic approach help my clients discover and change their patterns of behavior formed by being othered in their day to day life, chronic stress, chronic illness, family dysfunction and trauma. My clients tend to be those who experience oppression, people in the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities, 1st and 2nd generation immigrants, highly sensitive people, those with chronic illness, and those who work high stress jobs sometimes including secondary trauma. I welcome all walks of life to this space and strive to help you feel safe enough to unravel the complexity of who you are, with me as your witness. I work with men and women and families who are inclined to speak of their lives just as they live it and not necessarily from the position of a diagnosis. You might say I work with the crazy parts of sane people. Sometimes what we name things changes what they are and sometimes a diagnosis is useful and necessary, but in either case, across all styles of therapy, experience rather than information heals. In therapy, it is the relationship--the capacity of the relationship to transform, that does the healing.
My clinical approach is driven by my belief that people have the right to be themselves and lead fulfilling lives according to their values and culture. People know best what works for them and have the innate power to discover solutions for themselves. I also possess a strong faith in the ability and resiliency of people to make the necessary changes to flourish in their lives. Since therapy involves a major commitment of self, time, money, and energy, individuals should be very thoughtful about the therapist they select. I encourage people to make sure they feel comfortable with me and my approach in order to begin therapy. Throughout our time together, I will elicit feedback on how the therapeutic process is working for you. Therapy starts with an examination and evaluation of the presenting concern. I then work with clients to establish their personal goals. Therapeutic change occurs by helping people express and own their painful emotions and experiences within the safety of a therapeutic relationship. A safe therapeutic relationship also provides a non-judgmental environment where people are safe to express their deepest thoughts and emotions. I help people better understand their feelings, thoughts, interpersonal patterns, values as well as the past familial roots of their current difficulties. In addition, I actively seek out the fundamental strengths in each individual. I also address the impact of internalized oppression on our daily lives. As an African American woman, I understand the harm societys preconceived ideas can have on the individual spirit. I strive to ensure all therapy is culturally appropriate. I believe these factors help people move beyond their current challenges and experience hope, healing and growth. The ultimate goal of therapy is to remove the barriers which are preventing you from living your best life. My style is to take an emphatic, active, honest, non-judgmental, and direct approach. I am here to help people flourish, take action on the things which are important for you, move in a direction that is valuable and worthy, identify values and experience a powerful sense of strength and vitality.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) specializing in telehealth eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for women healing from trauma and posttraumatic stress (PTSD). I provide a safe, supportive space where you can process difficult experiences within a caring and trusting therapeutic relationship. I welcome a diverse range of clients, including LGBTQ+ individuals and cultural and religious minorities. I am committed to creating an inclusive, affirming environment for all. What I Help With I regularly work with clients navigating the effects of: Childhood trauma and attachment wounds Sexual assault and abuse Motor vehicle accidents and medical trauma Prenatal and postpartum trauma Anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias Depression and low self-esteem Disturbing memories that feel “stuck” I also enjoy working with helping professionals, including counselors, nurses, and teachers, who are processing their own trauma histories.
My goal is to help you find meaning in both your suffering and success. I am well-rounded, non-judgmental, empathetic and analytical and can draw from a number of therapy models depending on your particular need. I'm solution focused and rely heavily on asking the right questions, offering observations and informed hypotheses as well as active interventions. I offer resources that can be leveraged outside therapy to help you better understand yourself and improve your situation. I also offer E.M.D.R. as one of my practice modalities, I'm very trauma informed and attachment theory informed. I go the extra mile to help my clients achieve positive outcomes whether they are faced with an acute mental health challenge or are seeking personal and professional growth.
Are you unhappy with the path you are on? Are you uncertain how you even ended up here? Often in life we know we are dissatisfied, but are perhaps not sure why, and are even less certain about what to do to change it. This impacts our functioning, self-esteem, and ability to deal with life's challenges. I place a strong emphasis on making conscious choices, and I particularly enjoy working with people on establishing appropriate boundaries and gaining effective communication skills. My therapeutic approach is relaxed, conversational, and collaborative, and I believe there is a place for humor in our work together. My stance is one of openness and acceptance, with respect for you and your experiences, and a belief in your ability and desire to grow and change.
I bring all of my skills, experience & self to whatever issue you are dealing with. It really is the confluence of the mind and the heart (intelligence and empathy) that I think helps us identify what needs to be healed or heard, and then to actually hear it & heal it.
