My Approach to Therapy

You’re capable, thoughtful, and accustomed to managing what needs to be managed. But lately, you may feel anxious, overwhelmed, stretched thin, or simply not quite like yourself. Maybe you’re navigating pregnancy or postpartum, the demands of parenting and caregiving, changes in your relationships or career, or the physical and emotional shifts of perimenopause and menopause. (Deep breath.) Hi, I’m Laurel. I offer a warm, down-to-earth space where you don’t have to have it all figured out. I’m an active and engaged therapist. I’ll listen deeply, but I won’t simply sit back and nod. We’ll make room for honest exploration and difficult emotions, alongside humor, practical tools, and kind challenge when it’s helpful. My approach is integrative and tailored to you. Sometimes that means understanding patterns, relationships, and experiences that have shaped you. Sometimes it means learning concrete ways to manage anxiety or regulate an overwhelmed nervous system. Often, it’s both. I draw from years of clinical experience and a broad foundation in psychology to help you better understand yourself in context and make changes that feel meaningful and sustainable. It is a genuine privilege to be invited into the meaningful, complicated, and vulnerable parts of my clients’ lives. Therapy can be a place to feel deeply known and accepted, while also being invited to grow. You set the pace, and your goals guide our work. I know that reaching out to a new therapist can feel like one more thing to do when you’re already overwhelmed. So, start in whatever way feels easiest. You’re welcome to send me an email, or you can schedule a free 15-minute phone or video consultation through my website. I genuinely enjoy meeting prospective clients, and there’s no pressure. We can simply talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and see whether working together feels like a good fit.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Over the course of my career, my professional interests and life experiences have led me to pursue advanced training and certification in perinatal mental health and perimenopause and menopause mental health. These are areas I care deeply about, and I’ve intentionally developed specialized knowledge to better support women through these significant stages of life. My broader clinical experience spans 18 years and includes extensive work with anxiety, burnout, grief and trauma, parenting and caregiving, relationship and career challenges, and major life transitions. I especially value working with people during periods when something is shifting, whether in how they understand themselves, their relationships, or the life they want to build. I also have a special interest in working with therapists and other helping professionals. There’s something particularly meaningful to me about supporting the people who spend so much of their lives supporting others. When helpers have a place to be cared for themselves, I believe that care has a ripple effect that extends well beyond the therapy room.

On the Fence About Going to Therapy?

Sometimes life can look functional from the outside while feeling remarkably hard to live inside. You may have built a family, career, or life you deeply value, and still find yourself living with a level of stress, disconnection, resentment, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion you never expected. Or something may have happened that changed the landscape of your life entirely, leaving you grieving, hurting, or trying to find your footing in a reality you didn’t choose. Whatever brought you here, you don’t have to already know what you need or what comes next. Therapy can be a place to step back and make sense of where you are: what isn’t working, what you need, and what is within your power to change. Sometimes that means shifting expectations, grieving, or making peace with what cannot be changed. Sometimes it means changing patterns, boundaries, relationships, or the way responsibilities are carried. Often, it means getting clearer about your values and building a life that feels more aligned with them. Just because you’ve adapted to a painful way of living doesn’t mean you have to accept it as your life. Therapy can help you understand what is changeable, what needs acceptance, and what might bring your life back into greater alignment with what matters to you.
