My Approach to Helping
Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives” – Bessel Van Der Kolk.
I am a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois with over 25 years of experience in the mental health field. I have worked with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families of diverse backgrounds in many different settings. I will try to offer a realistic perspective to almost any problem. I draw upon many schools of thought.
I believe that we all need to feel safe to live meaningful lives. An underlying need for safety is at the root of all mental health disorders. Along with the air we breathe, the need for food and shelter is our primal longing for security.
I help clients identify and address the issues that keep them from feeling safe. We explore how safety is more than physical safety but includes psychological, emotional, and social components. I help clients address the issues that keep them from feeling safe and at peace.
Hope to meet you soon!
