What's My Approach to Therapy?
Dr. Nicole Mirkin is a California-licensed psychologist specializing in clinical and forensic assessment, trauma-informed care, and family systems. She holds a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and is a certified School Counselor with experience across educational, clinical, and forensic settings.
Dr. Mirkin specializes in evidence-based psychological evaluations within family, juvenile, and dependency court systems. Her assessments address issues related to mental health, parenting capacity, trauma, abuse, violence, and substance use. She also conducts adoption evaluations that support families and agencies in making informed, compassionate decisions throughout the process.
Dr. Mirkin also offers consulting and coaching for individuals involved with child protective services or family court matters. She supports clients who feel unheard or misrepresented, helping them make sense of the process, rebuild confidence, and advocate for themselves effectively.
She also offers psychotherapy for adolescents and adults, addressing trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, and major life or career transitions. As a certified School Counselor, she provides specialized support in academic and career planning.
Dr. Mirkin is passionate about destigmatizing mental health, supporting survivors of trauma and systemic injustice, and promoting fairness in the court system. She also mentors early-career clinicians and supports professionals navigating burnout.
Through her project Psychologist Interrupted, Dr. Mirkin gets honest about the messy side of healing – the setbacks, rebuilds, and everything in between.
