My Approach to Helping
Oftentimes, we find ourselves stuck in ways that we wish we could change. We may be stuck in patterns of behavior that we do not like and do not serve us, causing problems in relationships and unsatisfactory functioning at work and with other obligations. We may be stuck in emotions that are distressing and cause us suffering. These emotions may be anxiety, sadness, anger, guilt, or shame. I firmly believe that we all have an inherent tendency towards wellness, and I find that I can provide strategies, techniques, and perspectives to help my clients become "unstuck" and move in a direction of health, fulfillment, and meaning.
I find that a balance of working on the past and present is the best way to help my clients. I understand that the past often shapes our current concerns and problems, and I have a passion for helping people heal from past experiences that continue to affect them. I also enjoy helping clients learn ways to cope in the present and live value-driven lives.
My approach in facilitating change is client-centered and warm but direct. I understand that my clients arrive with firsthand knowledge of their lives, but also that I bring expertise and an outside perspective that is essential for change. I aim to honor both of our roles in the therapeutic process.
