My Approach to Helping
Online, Queer-Affirming, Multicultural Counseling. The therapist you need is not necessarily the one you want. Prior to becoming a Therapist and a Professor at Northern Illinois University, I was a homeless, drug-addicted (crack and heroin), sex-trafficking victim. Now I'm sure that probably sounds like a lot of information to reveal about myself but the truth is that I am a living example of how therapy, and hard work, can change your destiny and significantly improve the quality of your life. One of my secrets? Well, it's living your life authentically! Let me help show you how.
As a survivor of childhood sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, as well as subsequent victimhood as an adolescent and young adult, I am intimately aware of the struggles and pitfalls that await someone who is seeking to achieve healing after having experienced severe trauma. Overcoming your own toxic thoughts and fears can be your biggest obstacle to the life you want.
Whether you are heterosexual or same-gender-loving, my practice can assist you in coming to terms with who you are and finding the best way forward. Life is hard enough, walking this path alone is much harder. Give me a call today, and let's start your journey tomorrow.
