My Approach to Helping

My name is Jennie and I am experienced in working with couples and individuals, specifically where there is relational distress. I work with people who are experiencing a wide range of issues such as stress, depression, anxiety, anger, grief and loss, trauma and challenging situations. It is a privilege to create a safe place where your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can be explored free of judgment.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Marriage and Family Therapist. Dedicated to developing and mastering my therapeutic skills, I have completed advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and am a Certified EFT Therapist. Known for my empathy, compassion, and attunement, I form strong connections with those I work with.

I offer 20-minute phone consultations free of charge so that you can ask questions and we can discuss how I might be able to help. If we sense that we are not a good therapeutic fit then I will provide you with the best referrals possible.

More Info About My Practice

Couples beginning therapy have often described themselves as disconnected, dissatisfied and stuck. Some have been drifting apart for years, with bitterness and resentment steadily creeping in, leaving them roommates at best. Others have experienced a sudden snap that has fractured trust and intimacy. An emotional andor sexual affair, an event, or a diagnosis can often leave at least one partner feeling betrayed and alone. Using EFT as a roadmap has meant that many couples complete therapy relieved that they feel more connected to their partner. They have been able to understand and break their typical negative cycle and are more secure, trusting, accessible, responsive and engaged with each other.

When working with individuals I typically focus on the present, however, we may explore patterns that originated in the past when these 'echoes' negatively influence current situations and relationships. I understand that some patterns have helped you survive until this point but want to help you find and implement new strategies that lead to healing and wholeness.

My Role as a Therapist

Each client is unique, therefore I take time to be attuned to your story and experience. I meet you where you are at. Together we discover more about what is going on within and around you so that we work on the goals you would like to address.

With your permission, I give attention to the whole person, which means I am interested in your cognitive, emotional, spiritual, physical and relational well being. I take your lead when discussing spiritual matters, and have always enjoyed working with people who do and do not share my Christian faith. I connect well with a wide range of people from different backgrounds. I grew up in England, studied in Scotland, lived and worked in international communities within the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy

Typically we would meet weekly until the desired change is consistently noticed and experienced, then we start spacing the sessions out. I cannot guarantee outcomes, but I provide therapeutic services that are rooted in sound research and methodology and I won't keep you longer than necessary.

With over 13 years of counseling experience working with couples, individuals, families and groups in a variety of settings, I invite you to contact me today and perhaps take your next faithful step.
