My Approach to Helping
If you are struggling to get "unstuck" and to the root of what's driving your patterns and behavior, then you've come to the right place. I'll help you explore your underlying feelings to better connect your mind, heart, and body as you move towards feeling more integrated and whole-hearted. I'll help you better understand yourself, your mental health, your family of origin, your experiences, and the role they had in shaping you, while learning the tools unique and helpful to YOU to enable you to thrive. I'm a BIPOC and LGBTQ+ ally and I believe in the inherent strength and gifting of each individual, while recognizing the impact of broader social inequities on health and mental health.
I'm a trauma-informed therapist and clinical social worker with over 21 years of experience in the mental health and addictions field. I've worked as a university counsellor and am passionate about helping people overcome anxiety, depression, relational struggles, and family of origin issues. Folks have said I'm gentle, compassionate, authentic & emotion-focused.
In addition to working in a post-secondary setting, I've worked as a rehabilitation counsellor at both in-patient and out-patient youth addiction treatment facilities, as a mental health clinician in an outpatient adolescent treatment center, and abroad in the UK as a child protection and adoption social worker. I also teach Mental Health First Aid (Supporting Youth) as an independent Instructor with the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
I'm thrilled you've found me here. I know the road to help can feel uncertain, scary & overwhelming. I'll help put you at ease as we navigate this process together. You're an active agent in your change process and it's important you feel safe, accepted and understood. I'd love to hear your "story" and walk alongside you-I believe it's a sacred journey.
