Hi! I'm Danielle Turcotte (sheherhers), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2010. My therapeutic background and experience are primarily with individual challenges (related to thoughtfeelingbehavior awareness and management, identity formationre-formation, and pastpresent relational dynamics, anxiety, and trauma). Still, I am currently learning how this skill set translates into couples counseling and am interested in exploring this work as well. I consider my approach to therapy to be, above all else, very relationally based and client-centered. This means I may reach many different therapeutic approaches, in general, or even throughout a single session, to meet your specific and individual needs. Through the therapeutic relationship built and what I learn about your behaviors and preferences, I'll discuss potential courses of therapeutic action and work with you to find whatwhere feels most comfortable to begin. I believe success most frequently comes in very small steps of realistically achievable goals and recognition of the little wins along the path. My therapeutic skillset is strongest with individual challenges related to behavioralemotional management (such as coping with strong feelingsemotions or life events, self-control, socialemotionalbehavioral struggles), identity formationre-formationlife transitions (exploring feelings of being lost or alone, questions such as, "Who am I? How do I figure out who I amwho I want to bewhat I want to do with my life moving forward? How haveare experiences and influences affecting my sense of self and others?"), and relational dynamics (family systems and how they contribute to behavior in friendships and romantic relationships, questions such as, "How does my experience affect my present behavior?"). I am excited to get to know more about you and how I might be helpful or supportive. I operate from a strong relationally-based approach that is client-centered, solution-focused, and non-judgmental. I believe in creating a nurturing, comfortable, and safe space for expression that promotes authentic exploration and insight. I am very committed to building rapport, open communication, and assisting in helping you meet the goals you set at the pace that you feel is appropriate. Being client-focused means that I tend to let you take the reins and lead, occasionally checking in to make sure we're still sharing the same end goal in mind and discussing potential paths for getting there. It's important to know that the first session is quite a bit different from the rest of the therapy. It is meant to be an introduction to therapy involving an opportunity for you to learn more about the clinician's style, an opportunity for the clinician to explore and assess your stated challengesneeds, and a discussion of treatment goals and planning. This process will hopefully assist both you and me in figuring out a therapeutic "goodness of fit,"... meaning that I feel I have enough experience to assist you in meeting your expressed goals and you feel that my approach to treatment feels comfortable and right for you.
You feel caught in cycles that no longer serve you, but after so long, you don’t know any other way. In the quiet moments, you might find yourself wondering, “What is wrong with me?” That stress often feels like a spring winding tighter in your chest: a constant state of waiting for the other shoe to drop, or a quiet numbing of your own feelings and boundaries just to get through the day. I want to offer you a different perspective: What if nothing is actually wrong with you? You aren’t malfunctioning; you are adapting. You are experiencing the exhaustion of a system that has worked overtime to help you survive. As an Internal Family Systems (IFS) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapist, I offer therapy for clients in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Together, we build a relationship with protective parts and gently process how trauma is held in the body and nervous system, at a pace that feels safe and supportive.
I offer compassionate and evidence-based therapy to help you navigate life's difficulties. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or trauma, I can provide the support and tools you need to heal and grow. I'm here to listen without judgment and offer guidance on your journey toward healing and well-being. Together, we'll explore your thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and build resilience. I believe in your ability to overcome challenges and achieve your goals. Through therapy, we'll work collaboratively to identify your strengths, develop practical solutions, and empower you to live a fulfilling life. I am available to clients across the state, allowing you to visit with me in the comfort of your home through telehealth, whether it be during the week or in the evenings or on weekends.
Welcome to my practice! Therapy can be a powerful tool in relieving distress, learning about oneself, and living a more fulfilled life. I believe that at the heart of successful therapy is a collaborative, open, and warm relationship. Through curiosity and acceptance, I help my clients gain more appreciation for their emotions, assist them in recognizing their strengths, and aid them in identifying opportunities for growth. I strive to help my clients obtain the tools necessary to overcome roadblocks, which often keep them from reaching their full potential. I work with clients from diverse backgrounds and life stages and welcome the opportunity to treat individuals facing a wide range of concerns. Given my training and experience working with adolescents, college/graduate students, and young professionals, I have a deep understanding of the challenges these individuals face as they navigate life transitions. In particular, I specialize in helping individuals with self-esteem concerns, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, trauma/loss, and disordered eating. Taking the step to begin therapy can be difficult. With the right therapist, however, therapy can be an important and rewarding tool to living a more satisfying, authentic, and fulfilled life. I invite you to contact me to see if I may be a good fit for you. My office is metro-accessible, conveniently located in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, D.C. I have daytime and evening hours available.
Sometimes life can get overwhelming, and we need a little help navigating the journey we are on. As a military spouse, I can empathize with just how chaotic and challenging life can be at times. We all have stories and experiences that make us unique. I enjoy helping others navigate their story by coming alongside them to encourage their strengths and share new skills through a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach. I am always honored to walk with others on that journey for however long we work together, collaborating to find the skills, techniques, and solutions that work best for you, both in and outside of session.

This increased insight and understanding helps you live more flexibly, with greater compassion and authenticity. All clients are unique, and we customize our approaches to each client, integrating different modalities when appropriate. I believe the relationship or "fit" between the therapist and the client is one of the most important factors in psychotherapy. With a trusted, compassionate therapist, you will talk through everything that is on your mind and receive professional advice and honest, caring feedback. You can put your thoughts into words without feeling dismissed or judged. Therapy will help you relieve current struggles and feelings, experience more self-confidence, make better decisions, feel in control of your life and relationships, and resolve painful past and current experiences and traumas. I will work with you to identify and understand underlying issues or patterns that may contribute to your current struggles. We will work to develop new approaches and alternative ways to manage relationships and struggles.
Life often presents us with difficulties and struggles. Sometimes having someone who is willing to listen without judging what you are going through can help you with sorting out your problems and difficulties. Telling your story enables you to come to terms with your current experiences. You may be dealing with difficult life events, feeling sad, anxious or depressed. Therapy can help you to learn coping skills and techniques to solve problems. I encourage you to reach out today to see how I can be of help to you. I have worked with clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions and mood disorders. I enjoy helping those who struggle with a desire to change behaviors. I am passionate about working with those who are experiencing stress or anxiety and helping those dealing with problems with self-esteem or difficulties in their current or past relationships.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Virginia. Born and raised in Iowa, I attended Iowa State University, graduating with a double major in Child, Adult, and Family Services and Spanish. I have traveled and lived in many places throughout the world, and have developed an appreciation for the differences we all have, but also the similarities that unite us. I received my master’s degree from Rutgers University. In my 18 years of work experience, I have worked supporting children, adolescents, and families. That experience includes working with trauma, depression, anxiety, school related anxiety and refusal, conflict between parents and children, involvement in the juvenile justice system, immigration stress and trauma, and crisis intervention. I have experience in child and adolescent therapy, family therapy, parenting, group therapy, and school-based mental health. I meet the child and family where they are on their journey and works collaboratively to develop realistic goals that will improve functioning in all environments. I utilize a strengths-based, solution-focused and family systems approach. I encourage children and families to share their culture and integrate the unique cultural experiences of families into treatment. I enjoy spending time outside, watching movies, reading books, and crocheting. I also enjoy various forms of exercise, like weightlifting and yoga. I enjoy watching (and sometimes playing) sports. I bring creativity and energy to my practice and am mindful and strategic about interventions used when working with children and families. Mental health is an important part of our being. Just like we eat food to feed our physical body, we must also get what we need to be mentally and emotionally resilient.
Welcome! I’m so glad you are reaching out! Finding a therapist who is able to listen and understand your particular needs is key. When I meet with you for the first time, I want to learn who you are as a person. In addition to diagnosis and issues of concern, I want to know your life story. Are there patterns that recur in your life? What are your strengths? What matters to you? Once I have a good understanding, we can decide jointly what approach is likely to help you most. When you come for counseling, you want to start to feel better right away. By incorporating evidence-based coping skills from the first session, I am able to help folks get some immediate stress relief. At the same time, we will also address any underlying issues to achieve more long-term gains.
