My graduate degree in Counseling is from Johns Hopkins University. Typically I work with clients who have unresolved trauma and is still stuck in problematic behavioral patterns. They have often done some "talk therapy" in the past but didn’t really find it that helpful. I use more experiential methods to help you make lasting changes that improve your quality of life, not just provide stabilization. I’ve found that talk therapy can be one of the slowest ways to do therapy, and that if you ignore sensory input from the body, then you’re only doing therapy from the neck up. Whether you’re facing new challenges or struggling with ongoing circumstances, you may be feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, helpless, or anxious. You may also have slipped back into unhealthy patterns of behavior that you worked hard to change. I take a collaborative approach to therapy, and I’ll tell you up front that I don’t have a crystal ball or magic wand! I believe that we each have a unique journey, and while I do have education and training as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Maryland, I haven’t lived your life, and I’m not an expert on YOU.

Kirstie’s goal is to empower people to develop autonomy and self-reliance by creating an environment that feels safe and secure. The two of you planned a wonderful life together, but now you're wondering what happened. You feel disconnected. You know that you love one another, but your efforts to connect feel dismissed and misunderstood. You would like to show your care and appreciation without feeling rejected. You just want to communicate your needs without causing a fight. Being vulnerable can feel risky. How do you share your thoughts, fears, and joys in ways that honor your relationship? I offer a place to build a stronger relationship bridge that supports the two of you and your future together. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), the relationship is with my client. I work with couples of all ages and stages, online or in person, and I offer couples therapy in a way that helps you care for and love each other, communicate well, and build a place where every aspect of you, mind, body, heart, and soul, can be enriched by this new way of being together.
I believe that the innate nature of human beings is to survive and be well, and that varying degrees of life experience and trauma create psychic structures that inhibit that natural process from occurring. My job is to help client's develop compassionate awareness for these structures that are no longer functional in their lives and help them to build tolerance for the underlying feelings being protected by these structures. And ultimately to help client's choose and develop healthier more functional thoughts, feelings and behaviors to expand their well being, life satisfaction and treat themselves with loving kindness.
Are you feeling overwhelmed to the point that is effecting your focus or ability to sleep at night? Do you find your self feeling sad or not feeling anything at all and you can't see to enjoy even your favorite activities and interests? I am a licensed professional counselor who has been helping people experience breakthough in their minds and emotions for over 6 years. I have a fiery passion for helping people gain insight into their patterns of behavior, including linking their past to their present. I have a compassionate, client-led approach to therapy, tailoring the work that I do to each individual client. I start by completing a comprehensive intake assessment where I screen each person who comes to see me for various mental health conditions. I always provide information along the way and share with clients what I observe and any diagnoses that I assess them with. Then I work with the person to develop a comprehensive treatment plan to identify the goals and objectives of therapy within the first month of counseling. Within the working process, I combine compassionate, empathetic listening with teaching practice skills to provide an avenue for making change possible.
Are you experiencing a wide range of emotions? Are you going thru a difficult transition at this time in your life and find it hard to get your needs met? These experiences can cause anxiety and or depression. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone who can give you some much-needed empathy, offer some insight and and relate to what you are going through. I am willing to guide you through the storm and assist you with finding some peace of mind. I am a Psychotherapist specializing in transition issues, anxiety, depression, and relationship conflict, as well as codependents involved in a narcissistic relationship. My philosophy is to meet my clients where they are using an eclectic approach and to help them understand their behavior patterns, gain insight into their past and current challenges and help them feel empowered in their daily life. I am also a Life Coach focusing on transformation, self-esteem and self-sabotage, mind-body balance and productivity. Change is hard. Chronic stress can sneak up on you. I've been there too. If you are feeling overwhelmed or unsure of the next step to take, don't hesitate to reach out for a lifeline. You don't have to stay anxious and or depressed. Therapy and coaching have been around for a long time. An abundance of clinical research shows they are a proven method of helping to create change, positivity and, most importantly, a meaningful life.
Offering therapy that is insight oriented as a first step to healing. A structure of non-judgement, consistency and a strong client-therapist relationship are important pieces. This relationship is used as a tool to help make sense of and improve various emotions, thoughts, behaviors and patterns that may have become disruptive or problematic. Through guided exploration, the goal is to understand their influence on the way in which we experience ourself in the world.
