Welcome. I believe that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, authenticity, and collaboration. My goal is to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, emotions, and experiences without fear of criticism. Together, we'll work to better understand the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, build on your existing strengths, and develop practical strategies to help you move toward a more fulfilling life. My approach is integrative and tailored to each individual's unique needs. Drawing from cognitive-behavioral, dialectical, relational, and other evidence-based approaches, I adapt therapy to fit your goals rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, identity development, life transitions, or the stresses of everyday life, I strive to provide therapy that is compassionate, insightful, and grounded in practical change. I have particular expertise in working with postpartum mood and anxiety disorders and completed advanced training in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International. I have extensive experience supporting college students, graduate students, and young professionals through my years working in university counseling centers. I also provide LGBTQ+ affirming care, creating a welcoming and inclusive space where clients can explore issues related to identity, relationships, and life transitions with authenticity and support. Above all, I value creating a therapeutic experience where you feel understood, respected, and empowered to make lasting change.

My goal is to help you uncover your potential and establish positive lifestyle changes. I have over 15 years of experience as a psychotherapist who works with individuals and groups in the DC metro area. I’m psychodynamically trained, but my practice is far from Freudian psychoanalysis. My approach is eclectic - the most important thing to me is our working relationship, so I customize my work to serve you. Working with me, we’ll incorporate techniques from a variety of theories and methods including Relational Psychotherapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
From a space of non-judgment and sensitivity, I believe it is my job to provide a supportive environment for us to explore patterns that contribute to the pain and challenges of your everyday life. I aim to bring light to different ways of being, so you can experience less pain, more satisfaction, and a better quality of life. We all get stuck at some point in our lives. It is my job to be present in those "stuck" moments so that we may collaborate in discovering the origins of the pain while identifying a path to well-being that fits for you.
At Power Counseling PLLC, we are five different clinicians. However, we have one thing in common. We are all committed to satisfactorily resolve the issues that the client brings to the therapy room. We work with individuals, couples, families and groups, offering individual, couple, family and group therapy. Our primary therapy modality is cognitive-behavioral therapy, but we also use solution focused therapy a lot. We are located in Washington DC, but we are licensed to practice in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. Our director also offers clinical supervision for those who need it. Now, we offer only teletherapy. We believe that people can change, and that therapy is about assisting clients with what they need to change so that they can lead a healthy life and achieve their life’s goals. We assist our clients to attain self-exploration, resilience, empathy, and emotional empowerment. We firmly believe in the inherent inner powers of each individual to heal. We believe that everyone possesses the necessary internal resources to overcome emotional difficulty and flourish in life. This belief guides our approach to therapy. We strive to empower our clients, in a collaborative manner. Our goal is to provide a holistic, solution-focused, empathy-driven, and emotionally empowering therapy approach. That way, we support my clients to achieve the goals for which they seek therapy. We adopt an inherently collaborative approach. It’s like a partnership in which the client has a voice and can set the agenda for the sessions and take ownership of the outcome of our work together. We empower clients to make decisions about their care, with our guidance. The goal here is to work with the client to identify and implement effective solutions to the issues that they bring to the therapy room. As necessary, we educate and guide our clients to use internal and external resources available to them to heal. We work to empower clients to make decisions and take actions that align with their values and aspirations.
I am an empathetic and experienced therapist with a passion for empowering my patients through an individualized approach to wellness. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from North Carolina Central University and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland. Since graduating with my master’s in 2018, I have worked with adolescents and adults from many cultural backgrounds who have experienced homelessness, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other life stressors. I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and I also draw from a range of other approaches because I believe therapy is most effective when it’s personalized for each person.
I strongly believe in your inherent ability to grow and change-- to survive neglect, hardship, and trauma and become stronger and more resilient. I help people find their strengths and learn to accept and even love their vulnerabilities. I teach coping skills and I listen intently.
My practice is focused on experiencing power through change. I curate wellness and healing, centered on building your belief in hope, and implementing functional steps toward change. Life's journey can be intricate, layered, and unpredictable, often leaving us overwhelmed with anxiety and depression. As a Psychotherapist with a PhD in Clinical Sexology, I specialize in helping individuals and couples regain control and find fulfillment through psychotherapy and sex therapy (polykink positive). With a trauma-informed and integrative approach, including EMDR and cognitive-based therapy, I empower clients to transform their lives. Let's embark on a journey of healing and self-discovery together.

Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital, is the 20th most populous city in the U.S. and a model for the healing potential of therapy. The District of Columbia has slightly lower rates of serious mental illness among adults than the national average, according to data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). While most (58.4%) do not receive treatment, 72.5% of adults who do—and 64.1% in the 17-and-under group—report improved functioning.
Rates of alcohol abuse and dependency among people ages 12 and up are higher in D.C. than nationally. About 55,000 D.C.-area residents in this group reported abusing or being dependent on alcohol in a 2013-14 SAMHSA survey.
According to SAMHSA, use of alcohol and illicit drugs decreased among youth ages 12-17 from 2010 to 2014. However, the percentage of youth in that same age bracket who perceived “no great risk” from using these substances increased. Although depression rates among youth are rising, the District, at 8.7%, remains well below the national average of 11%. Only 37% of adolescents receive treatment for the condition.
Self-reporting of attempted suicide by D.C. students has consistently been double the national average of 6.3%.
With nearly 3% of D.C. residents (and 1% of youth) testing positive for HIV, there is considerable need for education and mental health support on the topic.
