Dion holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University, Chico, and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University. She has completed specialized training in internal family systems (IFS) and emotionally focused therapy (EFT), approaches that inform her relational, attachment-based, and insight-oriented work with clients. Dion has worked in community mental health, as well as the nonprofit sector, where she supported individuals navigating complex emotional and relational challenges. She specializes in women’s health, with a special passion for those navigating infertility, birth trauma, perinatal mood and anxiety challenges (PMADs), pregnancy and infant loss, and the emotional weight of self-criticism and perfectionism. Dion is currently pursuing her Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C). Many of her clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by life transitions, relationship challenges, people-pleasing patterns, or the quiet grief that can accompany reproductive struggles. She believes women deserve meaningful support during these experiences, especially in a culture that often encourages them to move on, stay strong, or simply try again. Dion intentionally creates a space where women can slow down, process their experiences fully, and feel deeply understood in ways they may not have previously experienced. Her therapeutic style is direct, compassionate, and collaborative. She integrates thoughtful humor with deeper emotional exploration, helping clients understand how past experiences shape current emotional patterns and relationships. Through this work, clients develop greater self-compassion, clarity, and a stronger connection to themselves. Dion’s goal is to help clients heal past wounds, understand themselves more fully, and move forward into new chapters of life feeling more grounded, whole, and connected to who they are becoming. Dion currently lives in Spain with her husband, their two dogs, and two cats. Outside of therapy, she enjoys reading romance novels, traveling, working out, and prioritizing her own personal growth through therapy.

You may find yourself in unsatisfying relationships and unable to make decisions. Becoming stuck can lead to a host of destructive thoughts and emotions that if left unattended can greatly decrease your quality of life. I am highly skilled in helping others gain awareness and live by healthy boundaries, thereby increasing self-esteem and self-worth. I would be happy to help you on your journey of self-discovery and renewal. Through the therapeutic relationship, I offer an empathic and empowering setting to explore, process, and grow in order to achieve a rewarding life. For teens, this time is an exciting transition between childhood and adulthood. Forming your own identity and achieving independence is the primary goal. You may be faced with many decisions, while at the same time, are increasingly aware of how others, especially peers, see you. Therapy can help in navigating through this with the purpose of increasing self-awareness and fostering healthy decision making. I am committed to providing a non-judgmental and supportive environment to assist you in finding healthy avenues to express thoughts and feelings.
My approach is strength based, collaborative and empowering. Through our work together you will gain insight into yourself and your relationships, and you will feel supported as you try to grow into the person you want to be. As a psychologist and art therapist I have devoted 30 years to supporting the wellbeing of others. I look forward to getting to know your unique story and walking with you on your path to a more fulfilled life.
Do you get stuck in cycles of negative thinking? Does it feel like your mind is working against you? Is it tough to turn off damaging self-talk and self-blame? This perpetual self-punishment can give rise to and worsen already challenging conditions like depression and anxiety, as well as sustain the effects of trauma. Wouldn’t it be a relief to break these patterns of destructive thinking? To improve self-esteem? To feel confident and worthy of engaging with others? I can help. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, solution-focused, and designed to be short-term using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT explores how thoughts and perceptions influence mood and behaviors. Identifying and modifying unhelpful thinking patterns affords us the ability to manage our emotions more effectively. In my practice, I also emphasize the importance of mindfulness, given our tendency to be overwhelmed by today's many distractions. Breathing and mindfulness techniques help to reduce anxiety, expand awareness, build resilience, and achieve greater degrees of acceptance. I have experience in suicide prevention and teen crisis counseling, and I currently work with the military veteran population, having recently appeared on Good Day LA to discuss the importance of trauma-informed care. Feel free to reach out with any questions. There has never been a better time to focus on taking care of ourselves, and entering into therapy can be an important first step to real change.
IF YOU WANT THINGS TO BE DIFFERENT, YOU HAVE TO DO THEM DIFFERENTLY! Life has a flow. When the flow is blocked, we suffer. Suffering takes form in many ways and affects every aspect of our lives. Trauma, adverse life events and sudden tragic circumstances all contribute to suffering. The manifestations appear as drug and alcohol dependence, depression, and anxiety. The consequences can be physical in nature, such as chronic pain and stress, mental in nature, such as isolation and fear, and spiritual in nature, when all hope seems lost. My approach is to help you unblock the natural flow of your life. Regain balance and empowerment in the areas of romance, finance, sex and spirituality. Combining EMDR and Mindfulness therapies, I can help you find your FLOW: Fulfillment, Liberation, Ownership and Well-Being. You can choose a better way to live. You can live the life you choose. Now is as good a time as any!
Psychiatrist in West Los Angeles, California, providing psychopharmacology and psychotherapy in a private practice setting for adults and older adolescents. I graduated with honors from Swarthmore College. I attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, where I won the Kenneth E. Appel Award for excellence in psychiatry and the Robert M. Toll Prize for research in the field of mental health. During medical school, I completed a research fellowship sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health, studying HIV and addiction issues. Originally from the East Coast, I moved to California to complete a medical internship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I then completed a psychiatric residency at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. I became board certified in general adult psychiatry in 1997. From 1998 through 2003, I served as a volunteer clinical instructor in the women’s mental health clinic at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1999, I completed a two-year fellowship sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in health services and quality of care. I have maintained a private practice in psychiatry since 1996. I see adults and older adolescents individually for psychopharmacology and/or psychotherapy. I love making a difference in people’s lives. I find my work both satisfying and rewarding. I believe people can best realize their potential to grow in supportive relationships; a strong relationship with a therapist can change your life. I also believe that mental illness is a disease of the brain and that medication, when used judiciously, can be enormously helpful in relieving suffering. While I individualize treatment based on your needs and preferences, I stay abreast of the research literature to offer state-of-the-art care that is supported by the most current evidence. I believe in shared decision-making. I strive to make sure that you understand the choices you have, including the risks and benefits of each treatment option.
