Supporting Family Engagement in Youth Mental Health Care

Presented by Glenda Clare, PhD, LCAS, CCS, LPCA on 01-29-2021 at 9 a.m. Pacific (noon Eastern) to 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern)

Family is affected and influenced by the mental health of its members. For children and adolescents experiencing mental health challenges, the engagement of family members is key to their long-term recovery. When mental health practitioners work in partnership with family, quality of life and clinical outcomes may improve.

In this 2-hour continuing education presentation, Dr. Glenda Clare will define family engagement and provide an overview of its role in all levels of youth mental health care. Dr. Clare will review effective strategies mental health clinicians can use to predict and enhance family engagement in treatment to create better client outcomes. She will also outline potential barriers to family engagement and ways clinicians may help overcome them.

This introductory continuing education webinar is designed to help mental health clinicians:

  1. Define family engagement and its roles in child/youth mental health.
  2. Identify barriers to family engagement.
  3. Describe strategies to predict and enhance family engagement.
  4. Discuss the role of the paraprofessional parent/family peer partner.
  5. Explain the role of family engagement across all levels of mental health care: individual services, service delivery and training, and policy and procedures.
