Introduction to Sandtray Therapy

Presented by Megan Cinnamon, LPCC-S, ICST-P on 04-21-2023 at 9 a.m. Pacific (noon Eastern) to 11 a.m. Pacific (2 p.m. Eastern)

Sandtray Therapy is an experiential hands-on therapuetic technique that utilizes sand and miniature figurines. In this 2-hour continuing education webinar for therapists, Megan Cinnamon, LPCC-S, ICST-P will discuss:

  • Who can benefit from Sandtray Therapy
  • Why and how this method of therapy works
  • What is needed for clinicians to get started and be successful with Sandtray Therapy in their practice

A common myth of Sandtray Therapy is that it is only used with children. Megan will discuss why this method is so powerful and how it can benefit clients of all ages and backgrounds. In addition, she will explore items needed to get started using Sandtray Therapy in one's therapy practice and outline ways to set up a sandtray space to promote client engagement.

It can feel overwhelming when starting out, but our hope is that therapist participants will leave this webinar with actionable steps to get started using Sandtray Therapy effectively in practice. Participants will be able to ask questions during question-and-answer breaks.

This introductory level continuing education webinar is designed to help mental health professionals:

  1. Discuss the history of Sandtray Therapy and differentiate between Sandtray and Sandplay Therapies.
  2. List supplies needed to begin practicing Sandtray Therapy including; types of sand, sand tray options, and where to find miniatures.
  3. Discuss ways to set up a Sandtray space for optimal client engagement.
  4. Discuss neuroscience principles that inform the Sandtray Therapy process.
  5. Explain the difference between directive and non-directive prompts.

Declaration of conflicts of interest and commercial support: None.
