Above all else I seek to provide a safe and encouraging environment for you. If you don't feel safe with me, you will never be able to share the aspects of your life that are most distressing and disturbing to you. In addition I seek to affirm the strengths you already have and remind you that although you may have problems, you are not the problem.

Too often counseling can be seen only as a place where people go to talk about pain and trauma. While that is often true, I prefer to view counseling as the place people go to gain freedom. That may be freedom from pain and it may be freedom from trauma, or it may be freedom from expectations, insults, or labels. And hopefully we can have a little fun along the way. I will never seek to make light of your experience, but sometimes what you need most is a real, human encounter with someone who can inject a little humor into your daily experience.

In a professional, appropriate manner I seek to help you see yourself and your problems clearly, and identify changes you would like to make to yourself and your relationships. I primarily use attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, narrative therapy, and biblical theology to inform my work with you. I seek to honor your beliefs and respect your process of healing.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have found that I have a knack for working with depression and anxiety issues. I've been told by clients and supervisors that my calm and gentle demeanor make me an ideal therapist for working with these specific issues.

I also have experience helping individuals heal from past sexual abuse and trauma. Helping individuals reclaim their lives and stories and see themselves as someone with value is some of the most rewarding work I do.

I also enjoy helping individuals work through identity issues. Often, major life adjustments reveal a whole new side of people that even they didn't know they had. I enjoy helping people discover the "new" them and learn how to integrate this new person into a complete, integrated identity.
