My Approach to Helping
As a psychologist, I first encounter people when they are in pain, struggling and vulnerable. I know from personal experience that a therapist who is not only skilled but also deeply caring can make an enormous difference at this time. From our places of deepest pain, frustration or grief can emerge growth, strength and even joy. When I am gifted with the opportunity to work with a teen, adult or couple at such times, seeing their transition from struggle to success is deeply rewarding. While I have extensive training and experience in assisting people on their journey toward greater health and happiness, I am very clear that I am not the expert on you and your life. Nor am I the one who makes the decisions about your life - you do. What I will do, however, is offer my observations, brainstorm options with you, make suggestions, ask clarifying questions, and accompany you forward on your journey until you reach your goals.

More Info About My Practice
I am happy to speak with you by phone first to get a brief understanding of why you are seeking therapy and determine whether I might be of assistance to you. If I do not feel I would be well-suited to help you for any reason, I am happy to recommend other excellent colleagues and resources. My first priority is to make sure that you receive the excellent care you seek and deserve.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

For many clients the presenting issue is depression or anxiety. Often these are symptoms of stress and pain in the person's life and relationships.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Deciding to seek therapy is difficult for most people, but the truth is that it is a sign of great courage and strength, along with the innate desire of all humans to feel happy and healthy. Psychotherapy should assist this positive urge for health and happiness, by helping illuminate and then clear away obstacles, whether created by one's self, by others, or just by life circumstances. I strongly believe that every person is doing the best that they can at any given moment, and at the same time, everyone is capable of making changes that will greatly improve their life!

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

Being able to assist people in taking control of their own lives to reduce stress, increase joy, feel better about themselves and their important relationships is enormously rewarding. Equally important is being able to sit with someone in a time of grief and sorrow so that they feel less alone. Being fully present with clients at pivotal moments in their lives is a both a gift and a responsibility that I take very seriously.

My Role as a Therapist

My role is not to tell you what to feel, think or do. My role is to help you figure out what you actually feel, what you really think, and what you can do to improve your life!

Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance

Seeking therapy can be stressful in and of itself. How do you know that you can trust and confide in someone you don't know? There is an element of taking a "leap of faith" in making a first appointment, and usually we take that step because we are in great distress. I understand how difficult making that phone call is and that you are reaching out in a time of vulnerability. It is my goal to receive you with deep respect and compassion, and to fully understand your deepest concerns. I will then work with you to explore together options and develop strategies to enable you to move forward toward greater peace and happiness in your life.
