My Therapy Focus

The focus of my therapy work is very basic. I believe that through mindful awareness we can tap into our strengths - I think of this as our true self or higher self. By doing that, we recognize that we have all we need. We can figure things out, make sense of our feelings, and create a life that works for us. My specialties are relationships and men's issues. I believe life is all about relationship. The relationship with ourselves first, and then with others. Men really are very different from women, and we can learn to accept our differences, care about ourselves, and have compassion for each other. We are injured by relationships - usually during childhood. And we are healed by relationships - throughout our lives.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Absolutely. That is why I became a therapist. As a result of my own dysfunctional family (a friend once told me that a dysfunctional family is any family with more than one person!), I wanted to understand what happened, and to fix them and myself. I was only 18 when I made this decision, and was not clearly aware of my motives at the time. I figured that out as I got older - and as I learned more about myself in my own therapy. After years of therapy with 3 very wise, insightful and caring therapists, I moved to Florida, started a new practice, and found a weekend personal growth workshop that changed my life personally and professionally. I realized how and why I struggled in relationships - even relationships with my clients! Of course, it was all about me - specifically, it was all about the dysfunctional things I learned growing up in my family. Now I see myself in virtually all of my clients - and I have more compassion, empathy, and understanding.
