My Approach to Therapy

Couples Therapy Is there too much fighting or distance in your relationship? Too little love and partnership? I specialize in helping couples create loving, healthy relationships. My personalized approach with each couple is based on the new science of love and relationships. Couples react to each other emotionally when their needs are unfulfilled, or when they feel hurt by each other. Together, with sensitivity and compassion, we can understand distressing relationship patterns - and create new, loving connections. Our weekend Connections program of marriage retreats and couples therapy intensives facilitates the fast track to healing with a new level of understanding, compassion, appreciation, and effective relationship skills. Individually designed for each couple and their unique circumstances. Men's Issues I also specialize in helping men find success and happiness in life. Many men struggle with relationships, careers, and other aspects of life. Sometimes it takes a man to truly understand what it's like to be a man today in a world full of competing demands. I've learned a great deal from the hundreds of men I've worked with. My personal style is down to earth and genuine. It's a collaborative approach based in the belief that every man has a true self - with internal strength, wisdom, and masculine sensitivity and values. In my men's groups and individual counseling, the goal is to liberate our true selves from confusion, shame, anger and self-doubt. The LATE Men The LATE Men are adult men who function as Lost, Angry Teenagers. They are late to develop, and late to show up as confident, loving, responsible adults. I specialize in working with this group of men. For more information about The LATE Men, please see my blog post in this web site. Our practice, the Relationship Center of South Florida, also includes several counselors and therapists who help women with relationship problems, parenting issues, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and other concerns. We offer women's therapy groups, and supportive, empathetic individual counseling for women of all ages.

My Practice & Services

Connections Marriage Retreats and Couples Therapy Intensives - Our Center offers highly individualized intensive marriage counseling retreats for one couple only, or for small groups of 4-6 couples. We also offer a package of services called Brief Intensive Couples Therapy. For more information, please visit our web site. Men's Groups - These evening groups offer support and guidance for men who want to improve relationships, build a strong sense of self, and achieve success in all areas of life.

My Therapy Focus

The focus of my therapy work is highly individualized. It's a relationship built on trust, acceptance, and deep understanding. In this atmosphere of openness and non-judgmental acceptance and curiosity, I use mindful awareness to explore each person's unique circumstances. My focus is usually some type of relationship issue - relationships with others, and your relationship with yourself. It's been said that we are injured by relationships - usually during childhood. And we are healed by relationships - throughout our lives. The therapeutic relationship is often healing in itself.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

My personal struggles - like most people - resulted from childhood family trauma. That is why I became a therapist. As a result of the distress in my family, I wanted to understand what happened, and to fix my family - and myself. After several years of therapy with a wise, insightful and caring therapist, I decided to become a therapist. Therapy helped me to realize how and why I struggled in relationships. This process helped me to have more compassion, empathy, and understanding with others. Also, the inevitable challenges in being a husband and father has taught me a great deal. I've learned to be more more sensitive and patient with my family and as a therapist.
