When people come for therapy they are experiencing distress and often report being trapped in painful and frustrating patterns. My goal as a therapist is to guide you away from being and stuck in this way and to point you on the path of possibilities for change and growth.
Every individual has the strength and potential to be healed and find her or his true self. We are born with a capacity to give and receive love, and to express who we are in the world. At different points in our development we face disappointment, loss, or trauma, and the ability to act with trust in our basic worthiness becomes impaired. Self love and curiosity can become overrun by self doubt, confusion, even shame. Emotional connectedness is replaced with isolation or power-based relationships which feel empty and unfulfilling.
It is within the trusting relationship between the therapist and client that the individual can be helped to understand how they came to be in their predicament, what feelings are bound there, and how to transform their pain. The therapist's sacred responsibility is to help individuals to find and reclaim those buried and fragmented parts of themselves, and to journey towards the restoration of the whole self.
More Info About My Practice
Throughout my work history I have helped people with a wide range of problems and concerns, including depression, work-related issues, low self-esteem, intimacy issues, and gay and lesbian concerns. In both my agency based work and private practice I have worked with individuals from different cultures, ethnicities, and religions. My style is interactive, collaborative, and highly respectful of your feelings, experiences, and current difficulties. Rather than using a set theoretical approach I use an integrative approach which is based on your particular needs.
I am in network for Cigna, Aetna, and Oxford. If you have an alternate insurance plan I can give you a monthly billing statement to obtain out of network reimbursements.
