My Approach to Helping
It's not easy to sit down and talk about your life to someone you just met. But the rewards of good therapy can be well worth it - such as better relationships, enhanced self understanding and self esteem, inner calm, healing from hurts of the past, clarity about life direction, hope for the future, joy in living. Going to therapy is a courageous choice, and finding a therapist you feel comfort with and confidence in is an important process. If you are considering therapy, it would be my honor to meet with you so you can evaluate whether I might be a good fit for your needs.

The Chinese word for "crisis" also means "opportunity". Problems contain disguised opportunities for growth. I believe that you are the world's best expert on you, and that my role would be to assist you in deepening and developing your self expertise. This is called a "client centered orientation". I do not come to your sessions with a set topic or to-do list, but let your in-the-moment needs, concerns, thoughts , and feelings being the focus of every session.

Whatever the particular area of concern you might bring to therapy, I would encourage you to explore that particular issue in relation your overall life and self. The benefit of this wholistic approach is similar to a mobile hanging over a baby's crib - when one part is moved or impacted, the whole structure shifts. While making progress working on one area of your life, you may well find that other aspects spontaneously improve as well.

Specific techniques I might use are always held within this client centered context, with the the quality of the relationship as the foundation of the work. As the poet Rumi put it, "When someone asks what there is to do, light the candle in their hand."

Clients tell me they appreciate my warmth, empathy, open-mindedness, approachability, non-judgementalness, calmness, compassion, deep listening, humor, and insight. My ongoing commitment to my clients is to give them my very best.

In case you are interested, my theoretical orientation has been particularly influenced by the work of Carl Jung (archetypal psychology), Carl Rogers (person centered psychotherapy), Victor Frankl (existential psychotherapy), as well as the the principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Good therapy gives you a safe & honoring sanctuary of confidential & compassionate listening and engagement, in which you can deepen your satisfaction with yourself and your life, and develop new skills and awarenesses that help you navigate life's challenging seasons.

Best wishes on your journey, and if I can assist you please give me a call.

More Info About My Practice
My fee is $110 per 55 minute session, and $55 per 25 minute session. I offer a sliding scale for clients who are uninsured or under-insured, and special payment plans as needed. I am happy to file your insurance for you. I am not "in network" on any insurance or HMO panels, but I do file and receive reimbursement from insurance plans that have "out of network" benefits. My experience is that being an "out of network" provider allows my clients more privacy, confidentiality, freedom and control vis a vis the course of their therapy.
