My Approach to Helping

I help my clients to create plans to quickly move them towards their goals beginning from the first session. I am direct. I will give you feedback with support. I will help you understand yourself. I will help you find your power to get your self or relationship back on track.
I will pay close attention to what you ask me for and what seems to work for you. Together we will discuss what is working and do more of that and less of what isn't working.
I am not interested in every client spending a lot of time in therapy. I care that you find what you came for as quickly as possible.

 

More Info About My Practice

For drug and alcohol issues, be sure to pick a therapist with solid experience in this area. It is difficult for couples to deal with these issues on their own and many therapists are not trained in this area. I have held senior clinical and supervisory positions at four drug and alcohol treatment programs in the Bay Area and I have worked in the chemical dependency field for most of my career.

Had a Negative Therapy Experience?

I have been successful with clients who have had negative first experiences with therapists because I have learned why this happens as frequently as it does, and how to prevent it. The most common complaint I hear is that the first therapist did not provide any feedback, so I provide feedback and direction readily. I also hear that the therapist gave up on their marriage before the couple wanted to. I don't tell people to give up on their marriage. I don't believe that is my role.
