My Approach to Helping

As a contemplative psychotherapist I offer a supportive, mindful approach to therapy, one, that is rooted in the meditative practice of cultivating self-awareness, love and acceptance. I have a Master's degree from Naropa University, where I was trained in Tibetan Buddhist Psychology, Psychodynamic, Client-Centered, Dialectical Behavioral and Solution-Focused Psychotherapies. I specialize in trauma and Addiction recovery with individuals and families. I view therapy as a form of mindfulness training, in which both therapist and client attend to what they experience in the present moment, revealing the places where healing most needs to occur. I have a gentle, yet direct approach that recognizes each person's strengths and challenges, in addition to the unique circumstances that brought them to therapy. I counsel people dealing with addiction, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, low self-esteem, eating disorders, spiritual issues and the effects of childhood abuse and trauma. I am a trained Dialectical Behavioral Therapist and Group Skills Facilitator who has many years experience working with addiction resulting from childhood abuse and trauma. My therapeutic approach is based on my own connection to spirituality. I offer the practice of meditation in sessions as a tool for furthering my client's inner guidance. Through our therapeutic relationship, profound levels of inward observation are accessed and nurtured, enabling a wellspring of knowledge about the nature of mind, self and other to be seen, felt and heard. This natural harmony between meditation and psychotherapy allows for true health, replete with self-love and compassion, to occur. I am able to coordinate our therapeutic process with ones own chosen spiritual path or practices, as well as offer guidance in non-religious, awareness based spirituality. I offer counseling sessions to adolescents, adults, families and groups. My office is conveniently located on Lower Queen Anne Hill, near downtown Seattle.
